Corey Feldman is walking back previous comments that implied Johnny Depp got him fired from the 1993 film What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. Now, he says it was all a misunderstanding — and he’s even open to working with Depp in the future.

Corey Speaks Out at LAX

TMZ caught up with Feldman at LAX on Friday, where he set the record straight. He clarified that he never meant to accuse Depp of sabotaging his career. Instead, he said he originally landed the role — which eventually went to a young Leonardo DiCaprio — but it was later taken away without explanation.

“It got yanked, and it just happened to end up with Leo,” Corey explained, adding that the media overhyped his past statements.

A Softer Stance Than Before

This is a big shift from Feldman’s fiery podcast interview that aired in March 2024, where he suggested Depp played a part in him losing the role and admitted he’d never watched the film out of lingering bitterness.

At the time, Feldman even predicted backlash over his comments, hinting that speaking his truth might stir up controversy — which it certainly did.

Looking Ahead, Not Back

Despite the drama, Feldman now seems more reflective than resentful. When asked if he’d consider working with Depp today, he responded with an open mind — a notable 180 from his earlier tone.

“I’m open to it,” he said, appearing calm and composed.

Feldman chalked up much of the misunderstanding to timing and editing, pointing out the controversial podcast was actually recorded over a year ago, long before it hit the airwaves.

Sliding Doors Moment

Feldman also touched on the “what if” factor — what could’ve happened if he’d kept the role that helped launch DiCaprio’s career.

Still, he doesn’t seem bitter anymore. Instead, he appears focused on moving forward — both personally and professionally.

Final Thoughts

Whether it’s damage control or genuine growth, Corey Feldman’s latest comments show a shift in tone and possibly a change of heart. As for a Feldman–Depp collaboration? Never say never in Hollywood.
