Music and film mogul Damon Dash is on the verge of arrest after repeatedly ignoring court orders in a federal case brought by director Josh Webber, according to a report from AllHipHop.
At the center of the legal dispute is Dash’s ongoing refusal to comply with discovery requests related to a $4 million defamation and copyright infringement judgment. A federal judge has warned that unless Dash and his company, Poppington LLC, fully respond by May 9, 2025, the court will issue a bench warrant for his arrest and hold him in contempt of court.
Mounting Legal Trouble and Attorney Walkout
Compounding Dash’s legal woes is growing chaos within his legal team. His attorneys are seeking to withdraw from the case, citing his refusal to cooperate and his expressed intent to file for bankruptcy—a step he has yet to take formally.
Court documents reveal Dash has not submitted the financial disclosures required by law, nor has he responded to discovery served on March 10, 2025. His lawyers claim repeated outreach attempts have gone unanswered, prompting them to request official withdrawal by May 16. Opposing counsel has until May 23 to object.
From $805K to $4M: Webber Amplifies Claims Against Dash
The dispute originated in 2022, when a court ordered Dash to pay Webber $805,000 for copyright infringement and defamation. However, tensions intensified in 2024 after Dash made public remarks that allegedly damaged Webber’s reputation and caused him to lose a high-profile film opportunity. As a result, Webber amended the complaint, raising his defamation claim to $4 million.
In response to Dash’s continued noncompliance, Webber’s legal team has requested the court’s permission to seize Dash’s personal and business assets, including intellectual property such as the “State Property” film rights. The judge, however, denied that request for now, stating that ownership and turnover issues must be resolved first.
May 9 Deadline Could Trigger Arrest
With no legal representation currently active and no bankruptcy shield in place, Dash’s situation is growing increasingly dire. If he fails to comply by May 9, the consequences could be severe—including arrest and potential asset forfeiture.
For now, Damon Dash remains silent in court and absent from the legal proceedings, leaving his future—and his finances—hanging in the balance.
