Billionaire David Geffen is firing back at his estranged husband David Andrew Armstrong (aka Donovan Michaels), denying explosive claims that he promised to financially support him for life.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Geffen calls Armstrong’s allegations “ludicrous” and says they’re part of a calculated attempt to humiliate him publicly and extract a financial settlement.
“During our relationship, I provided Armstrong with anything he asked for — his own apartment in New York, nearly unlimited spending money — but I never promised to share assets or provide life-long support if we ever separated,” Geffen says.
The Shocking Lawsuit Details
The civil suit, filed in July, claims Geffen promised to split all earnings and assets equally and provide Armstrong with lifelong financial security. Geffen’s legal team disputes this, citing his written estate plan, which makes it clear no such promises were ever made.
“This is clearly a shakedown, and it will not work,” Geffen states in the filings.
The billionaire notes that while he was generous during their relationship, Armstrong allegedly used his money to fund extravagant spending sprees, including luxury clothing, cosmetic procedures, OnlyFans subscriptions, and trips with friends.

Allegations of Deception and Drug Use
Geffen also claims Armstrong hid drug use throughout their marriage, including ketamine and cocaine, and continued his habit even after Geffen paid for treatment.
“Armstrong’s facade of a loving, devoted husband began to crumble, revealing betrayal, dishonesty, and outright fraud,” Geffen writes, explaining why he decided to end the relationship.
Geffen says the former spouse is still living rent-free in a luxury New York apartment and receiving monthly payments, yet is turning a divorce into a “public spectacle.”
Background on the Marriage and Wealth
Geffen and Armstrong were married for less than two years. There was no prenup, and Forbes reports that Geffen is worth $8.8 billion, primarily from investments and property he acquired long before meeting Armstrong. Assets obtained prior to their marriage are considered Geffen’s separate property, according to the filings.
Geffen’s divorce attorney, Laura Wasser, brought on civil attorney Patty Glaser to respond to the suit, emphasizing that Armstrong was treated like a king but ultimately exploited Geffen’s generosity.
What This Means for the Divorce Battle
Geffen’s response frames the case as a classic shakedown, portraying Armstrong as someone who capitalized on his wealth while feigning love and loyalty. The court filings portray a tumultuous and very public unraveling of a high-profile marriage, with allegations of deception, financial misuse, and drug abuse at the center of the dispute.
The lawsuit is now poised to become a high-profile legal battle, with fans and media closely following every twist — from luxury apartment disputes to multi-million-dollar claims.
