Baltimore Ravens Release Justin Tucker Amid Allegations and Performance Issues

In a move that’s shaking the NFL world, the Baltimore Ravens have officially parted ways with their longtime kicker, Justin Tucker, ending an era defined by clutch field goals, Pro Bowl nods, and an unwavering leg.

General Manager Eric DeCosta confirmed the shocking roster decision Monday morning, explaining that it was a difficult football call driven by the team’s evolving needs — though the decision comes at a time when off-field allegations continue to swirl around the All-Pro kicker.

“Sometimes football decisions are incredibly difficult, and this is one of those instances,” said DeCosta in a statement. “We are grateful for Justin’s many contributions while playing for the Ravens. We sincerely wish him and his family the very best in the next chapter of their lives.”

On-Field Struggles in 2024-25

Tucker, 35, has been a cornerstone of Baltimore’s special teams unit since entering the league undrafted in 2012. Known for his precision and ability to kick from long distances, Tucker built a reputation as one of the most reliable kickers in NFL history. He was named to eight All-Pro teams and was included in the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team.

However, 2024-25 marked a steep decline in performance for Tucker. He converted just 73% of his field goal attempts—a sharp drop from his career average of over 90%. For a franchise competing in a tightly contested AFC, that drop proved costly in several close games.

With the Ravens focused on building for the future and freeing up roster flexibility, the team is reportedly moving forward with rookie Tyler Loop, a sixth-round draft pick expected to take over placekicking duties next season.

Allegations of Misconduct Shadow His Departure

While the Ravens and DeCosta insist the decision was based solely on “football reasons,” it comes during a turbulent time for Tucker, who is currently under NFL investigation over allegations of sexual misconduct.

Earlier this year, sixteen massage therapists accused Tucker of inappropriate behavior during sessions conducted between 2012 and 2016. The allegations range from verbal comments to physical misconduct. The NFL launched an internal investigation after the volume and consistency of the claims became too serious to ignore.

Though no criminal charges have been filed, the nature of the accusations and the number of individuals coming forward have drawn comparisons to past high-profile NFL controversies.

Tucker, for his part, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, issuing multiple public statements declaring his innocence. His wife, Amanda Bass, released a separate statement in February saying she “fully supports” her husband and believes in his integrity.

“I know my husband, and I stand by him. We are confident the truth will come out,” Amanda said in her February release.

A Legacy in Question?

Tucker’s release is a major moment in Ravens franchise history. Over the past decade, he’s been one of the most consistent and iconic players in the league. With multiple game-winning kicks and highlight moments — including a then-record-breaking 66-yard field goal in 2021 — he carved out what many believed would be a Hall of Fame career.

But with the recent allegations casting a shadow and his stats on the decline, Tucker’s NFL future is uncertain.

The Ravens have remained tight-lipped about the investigation, and DeCosta made no mention of the off-field concerns in Monday’s statement. However, analysts suggest that the cumulative effect of performance issues and growing public scrutiny may have made the decision more pressing.

What’s Next for Tucker?

Tucker is now officially a free agent, and despite his résumé, it remains unclear whether another NFL team will take a chance on him until the league’s investigation concludes.

Several teams with unsettled kicking situations could benefit from a veteran like Tucker — if they’re willing to navigate the potential PR backlash and legal unknowns.

If the allegations are proven unfounded, Tucker may still have the chance to redeem his legacy. But until then, it’s clear that the road ahead will be difficult.

A New Era Begins in Baltimore

Meanwhile, the Ravens are moving forward with Tyler Loop, a promising rookie out of the University of Arizona. While unproven at the NFL level, Loop has been praised for his accuracy and mental toughness in college. The organization is banking on his development and youth as they continue to build a competitive roster around star quarterback Lamar Jackson.

This marks a significant transition for a franchise that rarely had to worry about its kicking game. Baltimore fans, who have watched Tucker kick for over a decade, may take time adjusting to the change — but the Ravens seem committed to turning the page.
