NBA legend Dennis Rodman has issued a heartfelt apology to his daughter, Trinity Rodman, for his absence in her life. The five-time NBA champion took to Instagram on December 18 to address their strained relationship, following Trinity’s candid remarks on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
Trinity Speaks Out
During the podcast, Trinity, a rising soccer star, opened up about her complicated relationship with her father. “He’s not a dad. He’s a person, but he’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, nothing else,” she said, expressing the emotional toll of his absence.
The Washington Spirit forward recalled their last public interaction in 2021 during an NWSL match against the North Carolina Courage. Dennis made an unannounced appearance, leaving Trinity with mixed emotions.
“When he showed up at my game, I was so mad,” she admitted. “I started crying on the field. So I’m trying to play a soccer game and I’m crying. … You took this happy moment from me and f*cked with my head again.”
Despite her initial anger, the moment ended with Trinity in her father’s arms, overwhelmed by emotions. “I just start bawling into his arms as if it’s a daddy-daughter [moment],” she shared. However, she said the connection faded quickly: “After that, radio silence. Stupid me for thinking that was gonna be some type of new spark.”
Dennis Rodman’s Emotional Apology
In his Instagram post, Rodman shared a video flipping through a photo album and wrote a heartfelt caption:
“Sorry, I wasn’t the Dad you wanted me to be but either way I still tried and I still try and never will stop. I will keep trying even when you’re being told as an adult not to respond to my phone calls. I will try even when it’s difficult and if it takes a long time.”
Rodman continued, “I’m always here and tell you all the time whether it’s your voice or voicemail how proud I am. I always had one wish and it was I wish my kids would call me and come see me. Hopefully one day I can get that.”
He concluded with a message of hope and perseverance: “I’m here and I’m still trying to pick up the phone. You have my number, you see me calling, I’m still here.”
A Relationship in Progress
Rodman’s message underscores the challenges of repairing fractured family ties. While Trinity has been open about her feelings of abandonment, Rodman’s public apology reveals his desire to reconcile and rebuild their relationship.
Fans and supporters of both Dennis and Trinity hope that this emotional exchange is a step toward healing for the father-daughter duo.
