Neo-soul icon Erykah Badu is making a major comeback with her first studio album in over a decade—and this time, she’s doing it on her own terms. On June 5th, Badu took to Instagram to officially announce that her highly anticipated project, produced entirely by The Alchemist, will be released under her own label, Control FREAQ Records.

The upcoming album marks Badu’s first since her 2010 release, New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh. Fans can expect the lead single to drop this summer, followed closely by the full album.
Originally founded by Badu in 2005, Control FREAQ Records was created as a sanctuary for creative freedom. Now, the Dallas-born singer is using it to fully own and distribute her music—a move that signals a new era of independence and artistic control after more than 20 years of influencing the neo-soul genre.
