During a candid sit-down on Joe and Jada, the former “First Lady of Ruff Ryders” opened up about why she’s still hitting the road on rap tours — even after tying the knot with Maximillion Cooper, the Gumball 3000 Entertainment Group founder whose net worth is estimated in the hundreds of millions.
“I Like Checks” — Eve on Why She Keeps Touring
When Jadakiss asked how her current tour was going, Eve lit up.
“The tour’s good. So far we’ve only done three, four… we’ve done four shows. I did Europe first,” she said, noting that she’s loving being back on stage.
That’s when Fat Joe jumped in with a playful but pointed question: Why is this “rich girl” still doing shows?
Eve’s answer was simple and unapologetic.
“I like money. Okay? I like checks,” she replied. “I wouldn’t be doing it if it wasn’t a check involved. I wouldn’t be doing it if the check wasn’t right.”
“Nobody Ever Saved Me”
Eve made it clear her motivation isn’t about needing her husband’s money — because she’s been financially independent long before marriage.
“First of all, nobody ever saved me. I saved myself,” she said firmly. “I got my own money. If I wanted to stop working, my man wouldn’t care. But why would I not do something that I love?”
For Eve, touring isn’t just about the paycheck — it’s about passion. She’s been performing since the late ‘90s, delivering hits like Who’s That Girl?, Satisfaction, and the Grammy-winning Let Me Blow Your Mind with Gwen Stefani.
Eve’s Picks for Rap’s Future Queens
The conversation then shifted to the future of women in hip-hop. Eve shared that while she believes only a select few will have staying power, she’s optimistic about certain artists carving out long-term careers.
“I think there are some, I don’t think it’s going to be a lot,” she said.
Her list included some of today’s hottest names:
- Doechii — “I think Doechii will be there.”
- Cardi B — “I think Cardi has made her way.”
- GloRilla — “I love GloRilla, I think Glo will be there.”
- Latto — “Latto’s dope.”
Eve also admitted there’s “a lot of crap” in the rap world right now, but she keeps a special place in her heart for her favorites.
Balancing Fame, Fortune, and Family
Eve, who married Cooper in 2014 and welcomed their first child in 2022, has managed to balance a high-profile marriage with her own career ambitions. Her return to touring proves she’s not stepping away from the grind anytime soon.
While some might expect a billionaire’s wife to settle into a life of luxury away from the stage, Eve’s still rocking sold-out venues and commanding the kind of performance checks that made her a star in the first place.
