The Pre-Entry Examination Management Committee wishes to inform all applicants for the Bachelor of Laws that the Pre-Entry Examination for the 2025/2026 Academic Year will be held on Saturday 26th April, 2025 at Makerere University, Main Campus.
A. WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO SIT THE PRE-ENTRY EXAMINATION
- Holders of O and A Level Certificates:
- O-Level Certificate with a minimum of 5 passes including English Language.
- A-Level Certificate with at least 2 Principal Passes obtained at the same sitting.
- Applicants should have sat A-Level in 2022, 2023, or 2024.
- Holders of a Degree from a recognized University:
- Must have a minimum of a Second-Class Lower Degree.
- The Degree must be obtained from a University recognized by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
- Holders of a Diploma in Law from a recognized Institution:
- Must have a minimum of a Second-Class Diploma in Law.
- The Diploma must be obtained from an Institution recognized by the NCHE.
- Mature Age Entry Applicants:
- Must have passed the Mature Age Entry Examination for the Bachelor of Laws set by Makerere University.
- Must be at least 25 years of age by 1st August 2025.
B. APPLICATION PROCEDURE
- Application Forms:
- Application forms can be obtained from the Academic Registrar’s Office, Makerere University, or downloaded from the University website: www.mak.ac.ug.
- The application form must be filled and submitted with the required documents.
- Application Fees:
- A non-refundable application fee of UGX 110,000 (Ugandan Applicants) or USD 75 (International Applicants) must be paid.
- Payment should be made through the designated bank accounts or mobile money platforms as indicated on the application form.
- Submission of Application Forms:
- Completed application forms should be submitted to the Academic Registrar’s Office, Makerere University, not later than Friday 28th March, 2025.
- Late applications will not be accepted.
- Required Documents:
- Certified copies of O-Level and A-Level Certificates or their equivalent.
- Certified copies of Degree/Diploma Certificates (where applicable).
- Certified copy of the Mature Age Entry Examination Results (where applicable).
- Two recent passport-size photographs.
- A copy of the Birth Certificate or National ID.
- Proof of payment of the application fee.
C. EXAMINATION FORMAT
- The Pre-Entry Examination will consist of both Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Essay Questions.
- The examination will test the following areas:
- Aptitude and Analytical Skills
- General Knowledge
- English Language Proficiency
- Legal Awareness
- The examination will last for 3 hours.
D. EXAMINATION CENTRE
- The examination will be conducted at Makerere University, Main Campus, in designated examination halls.
- Applicants will be required to present a valid identification document (National ID, Passport, or Student ID) to be allowed into the examination hall.
E. EXAMINATION RESULTS
- Results of the Pre-Entry Examination will be released by 30th May, 2025.
- Successful candidates will be notified through the Makerere University website and their respective email addresses.
- The list of successful candidates will also be pinned on the Academic Registrar’s Notice Board.
F. ADMISSION
- Passing the Pre-Entry Examination does not guarantee admission to the Bachelor of Laws programme.
- Admission will be based on the performance in the Pre-Entry Examination and availability of slots.
- Successful candidates will be required to apply for admission through the Makerere University online application portal after the release of the Pre-Entry Examination results.
G. PREPARATION MATERIALS
- Applicants are encouraged to prepare using past Pre-Entry Examination papers, which can be accessed from the Academic Registrar’s Office or the Makerere University website.
- Recommended reading materials include:
- Introduction to Law by E. R. Hardy Ivamy
- General Principles of English Law by P. W. D. Redmond
- Current Affairs (Newspapers, Journals, etc.)
