A fraudulent fundraiser claiming to honor the legacy of Angie Stone has been shut down by GoFundMe, just days after her tragic passing. The campaign, which collected over $12,000, has since been banned, and all donations have been refunded.
GoFundMe Takes Action
A GoFundMe spokesperson confirmed to TMZ that the fundraiser, created by an individual using the name “Lenda Peers,” violated the platform’s policies. The organizer never specified how the money would be used or how Angie’s family would benefit—only providing a brief overview of the singer’s legacy and death.
“At no point did the organizer have access to any of the donations,” GoFundMe stated. “We have zero tolerance for misuse of our platform and take swift action against those seeking to exploit the generosity of our community.”
Funds Returned, Scammer Banned
While the campaign aimed for a $25,000 goal, it was stopped before reaching its target. All funds have been fully refunded, and the organizer has been banned from future fundraising on the platform.
GoFundMe assured the public that they are closely monitoring the site for any fraudulent fundraisers related to Angie Stone’s passing and will remove any that violate their Terms of Service.
