Tragedy struck over the weekend as Rex Culpepper, former Syracuse quarterback and the son of NFL player Brad Culpepper, passed away at the age of 28. Local reports confirm the young athlete died from injuries sustained in a dirt bike accident in Georgia on Saturday.

    A Life of Athletic Achievement

Rex was a standout athlete from the start. He rose to prominence at Plant High School, quickly becoming a top football recruit. At Syracuse University, he excelled as both a quarterback and tight end, throwing for over 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns during his collegiate career.

In addition to his football prowess, Rex demonstrated remarkable resilience. In March 2018, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, underwent chemotherapy, and emerged cancer-free just months later — a testament to his strength and determination.

    Remembered by Family and Fiancée

Rex’s father, Brad Culpepper, had a storied NFL career with the Vikings, Buccaneers, and Bears and became a household name for his appearance on Survivor. Brad’s son carried that same competitive and determined spirit throughout his life.

His fiancée, Savanna Morgan, shared a heartfelt tribute, mourning the devastating loss just weeks after their engagement:

“No one expects to meet the love of your life and lose them in only 6 short years after meeting. Rex didn’t always believe in soulmates, but towards the end he told me that he didn’t realize what having a soulmate felt like until we felt like extensions of each other.”

    She added:

“And one thing about us is that we lived every single day like it was our last… I don’t regret a single day in our 6 years.”

    Friends Honor Rex’s Spirit

Rex’s best friend, Victor Silva, celebrated his adventurous spirit and zest for life:

“He went out doing what he loved most, ripping a 2-stroke dirt bike and pushing himself to be better. (He’d want everyone to know he cleared the 60-foot gap plenty of times before some dirt got in his eye ).”

Victor remembered Rex as a hard worker, entertainer, and role model to everyone who knew him:

“You may have passed, but you also damn sure lived. For that we celebrate. You live through us now, and we’ll do our best to live it up. I think I speak for everyone that got to know you: thank you.”

    A Life Lived Fully

Rex Culpepper’s life, though tragically cut short, was marked by courage, athletic achievement, and an unbreakable bond with loved ones. From overcoming cancer to chasing adventures on a dirt bike, Rex’s legacy is one of living life to the fullest.

RIP Rex Culpepper — a son, fiancé, friend, and athlete who inspired everyone around him.
