Freddie Gibbs Fires Back at J. Cole’s New Track and Criticizes Drake’s Latest Project

Freddie Gibbs may have some words for J. Cole after the Dreamville rapper dropped his latest track cLOUDs on Thursday (February 20). The track premiered on his Algorithm blog, showcasing Cole’s lyrical prowess and sharp bars, including lines like:

“I charter unseen territories in order/To push it farther than you n****s had ever thought of/I caught a lotta murder charges, turned artists/To martyrs, when I rock, thot turns to goddess.”

Shortly after its release, Gibbs responded with a simple yawn emoji on X (formerly Twitter), and he didn’t stop there. Using his burner account, youonlydie0nce, Gibbs went further, writing, “N-ggaz be rapping about how they kill rappers and kill they careers and blah blah blah but he backing outta rap beefs,” followed by laughing, thinking, and yawn emojis.

Was Freddie Gibbs Calling Out J. Cole?

Fans quickly speculated that Gibbs was taking shots at J. Cole for stepping away from his rap beef with Kendrick Lamar. However, nothing has been confirmed regarding whether the response was directly aimed at Cole or the broader rap scene.

This isn’t the first time Gibbs has interacted with Cole in public. In 2020, Gibbs shared a video where he showed off Cole’s RS-Dreamer sneakers, praising the design before taking them for a test run. In the video, he enthusiastically shouted, “Hell yeah, Cole! I ain’t even mad at ya. This muthafucka hard, bro. I’ma ball you in your own shit. Come get this work, nigga!” He even landed a dunk in Cole’s PUMA kicks, adding a celebratory touch to the moment.

Freddie Gibbs Takes Aim at Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR

Meanwhile, Freddie Gibbs also made headlines by accusing Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR of copying his style on their album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. The album title closely resembles Gibbs’ 2022 project $oul $old $eparately, which he often abbreviates as $$$.

To make matters worse, Gibbs pointed out that Drake and PND’s album features cartoon bunnies on the cover—something that Gibbs has used as a signature for years, symbolized by his “Big Rabbit” mascot.

On X, Gibbs posted, “Damn, they even stole the rabbits too. I’m flattered,” as soon as Drake and PND revealed their tracklist. He seized the moment to promote his own work by sharing, “$$$4u [heart emoji]” while resharing a spoof commercial for $oul $old $eparately that was released in 2022.

Fans Rally Behind Freddie Gibbs

Gibbs’ fans quickly rallied to his side, with many calling out Drake and PND for allegedly biting his style. He made sure their reactions didn’t go unnoticed, retweeting several posts that echoed his sentiments, further driving his point home.

As the back-and-forth continues, it’s clear that Freddie Gibbs is unafraid to speak his mind when it comes to his artistic influence, the rap game’s ongoing trends, and the competition in the industry.
