A Georgia family is reeling from a heartbreaking tragedy after a beloved grandmother was killed in a devastating car crash—just moments after visiting her 1-month-old grandson.
76-year-old Nancy Lee Veasy had spent the afternoon cradling her newest grandchild when the unthinkable happened: she was struck and killed in a violent collision on Friday, July 25.
Now, her loved ones are speaking out, calling for answers and remembering a woman whose final moments were filled with love and joy.
💔 A Final Visit with Her Grandson
Nancy had just finished visiting her daughter and newborn grandson in South Fulton, Georgia when the fatal crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Fulton Industrial Boulevard and Robinson Drive, according to South Fulton Police and reports from local outlets FOX5 (WAGA-TV) and NBC’s WXIA-TV.
“She never put the baby down. The whole time,” said her son Japhet Veasy, who had been driving behind her at the time of the accident.
“She wanted to hold them babies. Anybody’s baby,” added Cloys Veasy, Nancy’s husband of more than 50 years.
🚨 Witnesses Say Truck Drove Into Oncoming Traffic
Police confirmed that two people were killed at the scene. Nancy was one of them. According to her family, she had been driving home when a truck allegedly veered into her lane.
Witnesses described the truck driver as operating erratically before losing control, striking the median, and slamming into two vehicles — one of them Nancy’s.
“That’s the only thing I can imagine right now,” said Japhet.
“I can just still see her in the car.”
🚓 Truck Driver Handcuffed, But No Charges Yet
Video footage from the scene shows officers handcuffing the truck driver, though authorities have not yet filed charges. Police say the investigation is still underway as they await the return of crucial evidence.
“We are actively working this case,” a South Fulton Police spokesperson told local news.
“Once all investigative findings are in, we will determine next steps.”
The delay in charging the driver has sparked frustration from the Veasy family and members of the community, who are now pushing for transparency and accountability.
🕊️ A Life Remembered
Nancy Lee Veasy wasn’t just a grandmother — she was a matriarch, a devoted wife, and a woman known for her warmth, kindness, and deep love for her family.
“She loved holding babies,” her husband Cloys said through tears. “She was just full of love. If there was a child in the room, she was holding them.”
Nancy’s funeral will be held on August 11 at North Point Community Church in Alpharetta. The family expects a large turnout from those touched by her generous spirit.
📸 A Tragedy That Hits Home
This tragedy is part of a disturbing pattern of elderly drivers and fatal collisions making national headlines:
- In Florida, a 91-year-old driver accidentally drove into a family, killing two grandparents and critically injuring a toddler.
- In Ohio, a 4-year-old boy was killed while riding a tractor with his great-grandmother when it overturned.
Such stories continue to raise concerns about road safety, particularly involving larger vehicles or older drivers in high-traffic areas.
🧾 The Investigation Continues
As of now, police have not released the name of the truck driver or shared additional details about the cause of the crash. Toxicology reports and crash analysis are pending.
The Veasy family is calling on law enforcement to act swiftly and thoroughly, insisting that their loved one’s death deserves justice.
“She had just held her grandson,” said Japhet.
“She was filled with so much joy… and then this.”
