Green Day’s electrifying Coachella performance took a frightening turn Saturday night after a rogue firework shot into the crowd, sparking panic and setting a nearby palm tree ablaze.
The incident occurred during the band’s final moments on stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. While the firework display was meant to cap off their set with a bang, one pyrotechnic misfired and veered off course, heading straight into a group of festivalgoers.
A viral TikTok video captures the moment the palm tree caught fire, with thick flames rising as shocked onlookers gasped. Firefighters were seen rushing in to douse the blaze, while event staff could be heard urgently shouting, “Everybody out please!”
One shaken attendee took to X (formerly Twitter), writing, “A firework just exploded next to me and all my friends at Coachella. I can’t hear out of my right ear. Multiple people hurt. That was f***ing insane, I thought it was a terrorist attack.”
At this time, it’s unclear whether anyone sustained serious injuries. Representatives for Green Day and the Coachella festival have yet to issue official statements regarding the incident.
The unsettling mishap has raised safety concerns about large-scale pyrotechnics at music festivals, especially in crowded outdoor environments like Coachella.
