The Forever Fatman Scoop Foundation, in collaboration with the Freeman Family, NYC Council Member Dr. Yusef Salaam, and community leaders, has announced a street co-naming ceremony to celebrate the life and legacy of Grammy-winning Harlem native Isaac “Fatman Scoop” Freeman III.
On Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 2:00 PM, the intersection of 109th Street and 5th Avenue will officially be co-named:
“Isaac ‘Fatman Scoop’ Freeman III Place”
This heartfelt tribute comes nearly a year after Scoop’s passing in August 2024, and aims to cement his legacy not just as a global entertainer—but as a proud son of Harlem.
🎤 A Voice That Changed the Culture
Born and raised in Harlem, Fatman Scoop became a worldwide sensation thanks to his unmistakable booming voice, electrifying stage presence, and infectious energy.
His 1999 hit “Be Faithful” became a club anthem that took over dancefloors globally. The song topped charts in the UK and Ireland in 2003 and made waves in Denmark and Australia.
But Scoop’s impact didn’t stop there. He collaborated with some of music’s biggest names:
✅ Missy Elliott on “Lose Control” (Grammy winner for Best Short Form Music Video)
✅ Mariah Carey on “It’s Like That”
✅ And countless others who credit him for bringing raw energy into their tracks.
Scoop passed away on August 31, 2024, at the age of 56. His legacy, however, continues to thrive—both in the music industry and in the Harlem community he loved so deeply.
🏙️ “A Son of Harlem” – Family and Community Speak Out
Kendell “Sav” Freeman, Scoop’s brother, shared an emotional statement about the street co-naming:
“Scoop has always represented Harlem with pride. This co-naming is a tribute not just to his artistry, but to his ongoing commitment to uplifting the community that raised him.”
The ceremony is expected to draw friends, family, fans, local leaders, and community members for what organizers describe as a celebration of:
