Kim Kardashian is reportedly contemplating a major legal move against her ex-husband, Kanye West, over his repeated disregard for their custody agreement regarding their four children. The latest dispute stems from Kanye’s decision to release a song featuring their 10-year-old daughter, North West, despite Kim’s strong opposition and a formal agreement prohibiting its release.
Custody Agreement Violations and Kanye’s Defiance
The legal battle reignited on Friday when Kanye and Kim engaged in court-ordered mediation regarding the track “Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine.” The song includes North’s rap vocals and a phone conversation between Kanye and music mogul Diddy. According to insiders, Kim was adamantly against North’s involvement, citing concerns over exposure and privacy.
Under their divorce settlement, both parents have equal say in making decisions for their children. The agreement further stipulates that in cases of conflict, a private judge must mediate the matter. During mediation, Kim, accompanied by her powerhouse attorney Laura Wasser, and Kanye, represented by Patrick DeCarolis, reached an understanding that North would not be featured in any version of the song.
However, Kanye blatantly disregarded the agreement and released the song over the weekend, featuring North’s vocals. In an apparent justification for his actions, Kanye took to X (formerly Twitter) to declare, “THE MAN MAKES THE FINAL DECISION.”
Kim’s Concerns and Potential Legal Action
This latest act of defiance has left Kim deeply frustrated. Sources close to the reality star say she is now seriously considering going to court to strip Kanye of joint legal custody, which would mean she alone would have final decision-making authority over their children’s well-being.
While Kim has always prioritized ensuring her children maintain a relationship with their father, Kanye’s erratic behavior and disregard for agreements have become increasingly problematic. Though Kanye rarely spends time with their children, Kim has historically made efforts to facilitate visits. However, she drew the line recently when Kanye hosted an event promoting controversial messages, including urging attendees to wear swastika-adorned shirts—an event she felt was inappropriate for their children to attend.
What This Could Mean for Kanye’s Parental Rights
If Kim follows through with legal action and a judge sides with her, Kanye could lose joint legal custody, meaning he would no longer have a say in significant decisions regarding their children’s education, medical care, and general upbringing. While he would still retain visitation rights, his influence over their lives would be substantially diminished.
