Don’t call it a comeback! Hip-hop icon and actor LL COOL J is making his highly anticipated return to television, reprising his role for the 22nd season of NCIS. The legendary rapper took to Instagram on Thursday (March 20) to confirm the news, sending fans into a frenzy.
The post, shared jointly with NCIS, began with a blurred image displaying the words “Guess who’s back” before a hand wiped away the screen, revealing LL COOL J on the other side.
“That’s better,” LL COOL J said with a confident grin. “Back on set, baby! NCIS. Let’s get it.”
LL COOL J Feels ‘Good Energy’ in His NCIS Return
Back in April 2024, LL COOL J expressed enthusiasm about stepping back into his role, calling the decision a natural fit.
“It just felt right to me. It felt like, ‘You know what? Let’s have some fun. Let’s do this,” he told PEOPLE.
His character, Sam Hanna, has been a fan favorite for years, and LL hinted that his return would bring new developments to the story.
“The story definitely wasn’t over at all, that’s for sure,” he explained. “We’re finding out more about Sam, but remember, this is a different thing because Sam was transferred here.”

Beyond his excitement for returning, LL COOL J spoke highly of Vanessa Lachey, the lead actress in the series.
“I think it’s good energy,” he told PEOPLE. “She’s a lot of fun. I’m really happy for her, happy for the success that she’s enjoying with the show, and I look forward to making my contribution in the episodes that I appear and just hopefully making the show that much more enjoyable.”
