While Malik Beasley is no longer a target of federal authorities, the NBA is conducting its own investigation into potential betting irregularities involving the free-agent guard.
According to ESPN, a sportsbook noticed unusual betting activity tied to Beasley’s stats in January 2024, prompting the league to open a probe into the 28-year-old guard.
A source told ESPN the investigation is “believed to be in its final stages.”
NBA Investigation Details
Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, confirmed the player is fully cooperating with league officials as the inquiry continues.
This comes just weeks after Beasley was cleared by the Eastern District of New York, following allegations connected to the 2023-24 season when he played for the Milwaukee Bucks.
Beasley’s Recent Performance & Free Agency
Before federal authorities cleared him, Beasley had been in talks to extend with the Detroit Pistons. During the 2024-25 season, he averaged:
- 16.3 points per game
- 2.6 rebounds per game
A few days ago, Beasley teased his free agency plans on Instagram:
“Year 10 is approaching. Probably the most interesting one of them all. And the goal remains the same … be better than last year.”
While he has yet to announce his next team, it’s expected he’ll have to wait for the NBA’s investigation to conclude before signing any new deals.
What This Means for Beasley
The guard’s free agency is now on hold until the league clears him, despite his solid career performance and recent all-clear from federal authorities. NBA teams will likely monitor the situation closely before making offers.
