Metro Boomin appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday, September 24, as his civil rape trial officially began. The Grammy-winning producer was accompanied by his attorneys and a bodyguard. The lawsuit, filed by Vanessa LeMaistre, alleges that Metro sexually assaulted her in 2016.
Allegations Detailed in Court
According to court filings, LeMaistre claims she confided in Metro about the recent death of her nine-month-old son. She alleges that he gave her half a Xanax and alcohol, after which she lost consciousness. LeMaistre testified that she awoke to Metro raping her. She further claims that she later had an abortion and believes the pregnancy was his child.
LeMaistre also alleges that Metro referenced the incident in lyrics on his song “Rap Saved Me.” Metro Boomin has consistently denied all allegations.
Opening Statements Set Tone
Tuesday’s proceedings featured tense exchanges between the legal teams. Judge R. Gary Klausner acknowledged the heightened emotions in the courtroom before jury selection.
- LeMaistre’s attorney, Michael J. Willemin, told jurors:
“He knew that she was unable of consenting.”
- Metro’s attorney, Lawrence C. Hinkle II, countered:
“It wasn’t about sexual assault, it was about her wanting a relationship with him.”
Hinkle described the plaintiff as “flat broke” and “a woman scorned,” asserting she sought revenge after their communication ended. He added that Metro would testify and had “nothing to hide.”
Plaintiff’s Emotional Testimony
LeMaistre described the effects of Xanax and alcohol as feeling like “anesthesia.” She recalled waking up confused, searching hotel trash for a condom, and leaving in a disoriented state. She admitted she once thought rape only involved strangers, saying,
“I truly thought that rape was what you see on TV.”
She also detailed a 2024 ayahuasca experience that she says helped her process the trauma, explaining that the alleged assault had “completely shattered” her self-esteem.
