Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler Reunite for Intense Horror Thriller ‘Sinners’

Hollywood power duo Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler are back with their latest collaboration, a gripping horror thriller titled Sinners.

Warner Bros. Drops First Trailer Featuring Jordan in Dual Role

On Tuesday, January 28, Warner Bros. released the official trailer for Sinners, showcasing Jordan in a unique dual role as twin brothers. Joining him in the cast are Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, Wunmi Mosaku, Omar Miller, Jayme Lawson, and Jack O’Connell.

The film’s synopsis teases an eerie premise: “Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers return to their hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.”

Coogler’s First Film Since ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

Sinners marks Coogler’s first directorial project since helming the global blockbuster Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022. It also continues his longstanding creative partnership with Jordan, following their successful collaborations on Fruitvale Station, Creed, and Black Panther.

At a virtual press conference on Monday, January 27, Coogler shared that Sinners is “partially inspired by his family’s history in Mississippi.”

A Deeply Personal Inspiration

“The seed of it started with that relationship with my uncle,” Coogler explained. “He would listen to blues music all the time and he would only talk about Mississippi when he was listening to that music. He had a profound effect on my life, and I got a chance to kind of dig into my own ancestral history with this film. It’s been extremely rewarding.”

A Filmmaking Partnership Like Scorsese & De Niro

Coogler also likened his working relationship with Jordan to legendary Hollywood collaborations such as Martin Scorsese’s partnerships with Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio.

“All of my favorite filmmakers have those relationships, and it makes it easier, man. It’s hard to make a movie, bro,” Coogler said. “It’s hard to lead a film, to be an actor in these films, and when you have somebody who it clicks with—somebody who understands you, who gets you—it doesn’t feel like work all the time. Then what we went through with losing Chadwick, man, it made us both, I think, appreciate each other even more.”

Release Date and Final Thoughts

Sinners is set to premiere in theaters on April 18. With Coogler’s signature storytelling and Jordan’s compelling performance, anticipation is high for this chilling horror thriller.
