It seems that with his planned fight against John Rocker no longer on the table, Patrick Mahomes Sr. is now pivoting to other opportunities to make a quick buck. The father of NFL star Patrick Mahomes II, who has been in the news for various reasons, is now looking to make an appearance at a sports card convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. But first, he needs the green light from a Texas court.
According to documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Mahomes Sr. has formally requested permission from a Smith County, Texas, court to travel to Minnesota from April 12 to April 13. His plan? To sign autographs at a sports card convention, where fans will have the chance to meet the father of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and grab his signature on memorabilia.
Court Approval Required Due to DWI Plea Agreement
However, before Mahomes Sr. can pack his bags, he must first get approval from a judge as part of the stipulations in the plea agreement he entered into following a DWI case last year. Mahomes Sr. has been on probation since the incident, and his request to travel out of state for the event requires the judge’s signature.
As of now, the judge has yet to approve his request, but Mahomes Sr. has promised that, if granted permission, he will adhere to all of the rules and regulations of his probation. This includes taking a urine test on April 14, when he returns to Texas after the event.
Fight with John Rocker Cancelled, Mahomes Sr. Shifts Focus to Autograph Signing
Originally, Mahomes Sr. had plans to participate in a highly anticipated fight with former MLB pitcher John Rocker. The two were supposed to square off in a match that was gaining plenty of attention online. However, after a staged confrontation between Mahomes Sr. and Rocker went viral, things took an unexpected turn. Mahomes Sr.’s probation officers raised concerns, and shortly after, the event’s organizers, including Barstool Sports’ Dave Portnoy, made the announcement that the fight was officially canceled.
