Renowned Ugandan singer Ray G has expressed concern over the current state of the country’s music industry, describing it as being in “trying times.”

According to the Western Uganda-based artist, the industry has become entangled with politics, forcing musicians to take political sides—something that some fear could jeopardize their careers.

Politics Overshadowing Music?

Ray G points out that the pressure for artists to align themselves with specific political parties has created an environment where the negatives outweigh the positives.

“The music industry is currently in trying times. Most artists have to look for where they belong politically, yet some of them are afraid of taking sides. Currently, the negatives outweigh the positives,” he said.

He further emphasized that music should remain a uniting factor rather than a source of division, adding that many people enter the industry with uncertainty and fear due to the political undertones now attached to the profession.

“Music should be about bringing feel-good vibes, uniting people, and calming down their thoughts. But now, a person joins music in panic,” he added.

Ray G’s sentiments echo growing concerns in Uganda’s entertainment industry, where political affiliations have increasingly influenced the careers of many artists.
