Ritah Dancehall Calls for Inclusion on Payroll as a Pioneer in Uganda’s Dance Industry
Renowned Ugandan dancer Ritah Dancehall has made a passionate appeal for recognition and inclusion on the government payroll, citing her significant contributions to the country’s dance industry. The celebrated performer highlighted her role in inspiring young dancers, promoting Ugandan talent, and raising the national flag on international stages.
Speaking on the issue, Ritah urged Phina Mugerwa, commonly known as Phina Masanyalaze, to consider her for a cabinet advisory role. “Phina Masanyalaze should call me and get me added to the cabinet for advice and payment,” she stated. “I deserve to be on the payroll for everything I’ve done for the dance industry.”
Ritah emphasized her influence in nurturing a new generation of dancers through her performances and collaborations with prominent artists. She views her efforts as a source of hope for Ugandan youth passionate about pursuing careers in dance.

Ritah also responded to a recent letter from the Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC), which warned creatives against using inappropriate lyrics and dressing indecently. The advisory hinted at a potential 10-year blacklist targeting artists such as Gravity Omutujju, Lil Pazo, Gloria Bugie, and Shakira Shakira, among others.
Denying allegations of indecent dressing, Ritah firmly stated, “I have never dressed indecently. I only wear tight and long pants, but I’ve never exposed my private parts.”
