Minnesota suspected shooter

The best friend and roommate of suspected Minnesota gunman Vance Boelter has revealed he received a deeply unsettling message just hours after a deadly shooting spree that claimed the lives of two and injured two more over the weekend.

A Haunting Message Before the Violence

Speaking with KARE 11 News, David Carlson shared the text he and another friend, Ron, received around 6 AM on Saturday — shortly after former Democratic State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were shot and killed, and State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were critically wounded.

“David and Ron, I love you guys. I made some choices, and you guys don’t know anything about this, but I’m going to be gone for a while. May be dead shortly, so I just want to let you know I love you guys both and I wish it hadn’t gone this way.”

Boelter’s message continued with an apology for the pain and confusion caused, adding that he didn’t want to reveal more to avoid implicating anyone else.

Carlson says he immediately contacted police, fearing the worst. “He wasn’t a hateful person,” Carlson said. “But he needed help.”

A Troubled Man With a Political Past

According to Carlson, 57-year-old Boelter had been experiencing financial struggles and professional setbacks, despite attempts to launch various business ventures, including a private security firm.

Carlson also revealed Boelter had once served under Democratic Governor Tim Walz but later became disillusioned and supported Donald Trump. He held strong anti-abortion views, though Carlson emphasized that those beliefs didn’t define him entirely.

The Attack That Shocked Minnesota

As reported, Boelter — allegedly dressed as a police officer and driving a lookalike patrol car — showed up at the homes of Melissa Hortman and John Hoffman early Saturday. Officials say he fatally shot Hortman and her husband and wounded the Hoffmans, who both survived after undergoing surgery.

FBI Manhunt and National Outrage

Boelter is currently wanted by federal authorities, with the FBI offering a reward for information leading to his capture. The politically motivated nature of the attack — targeting Democratic lawmakers — has sparked national concern and renewed debate over political violence.
