The Golden State Warriors secured a crucial victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals—but at a significant cost. Superstar guard Stephen Curry suffered a left hamstring injury that could sideline him until at least Game 4.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Curry has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain, sustained during Wednesday night’s matchup on May 6. Early estimates suggest the Warriors’ leader will be unavailable until Game 4, scheduled for Monday, May 12.
Timeline for Potential Return
If Curry’s recovery goes as expected, he could rejoin the team by Game 4. However, if further rest is required, he may not return until later in the series:
- Game 4 – May 12
- Game 5 (if necessary) – May 14
- Game 6 – May 18
- Game 7 – May 20
The injury occurred with 8:48 remaining in the second quarter, just after Curry hit one of his signature floaters. He immediately grabbed his left leg and signaled to the bench but remained on the court briefly before exiting for the locker room. He did not return.
Kerr and Teammates React
After the game, head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Curry’s status:
“He’s obviously crushed. We’re definitely game-planning for him to not be available on Thursday. With a hamstring, it’s hard to imagine he would play.”
Draymond Green echoed the emotional weight of the injury:
“[Curry] was a little deflated. He tried not to show it. He was just in the locker room waiting for guys to come in, waiting to show his support. It was tough on him.”
This marks Curry’s first playoff absence due to injury since the 2018 Western Conference semifinals when he missed time with a knee issue.
Warriors Remain Confident
Despite the setback, the Warriors are rallying around their sidelined star. Veteran leader Jimmy Butler III, who joined the team this season, expressed optimism:
“I think we all want [No.] 30 back, that is for sure. But we want him to do his best for himself, best for our group. Until then, we can hold down the fort. I know we can.”
The Warriors will face the Timberwolves again in Game 2 on Thursday, May 8. Without Curry, they’ll need a collective effort to maintain their momentum in the series.
