Tina Knowles couldn’t contain her joy after witnessing an unforgettable mother-daughter moment during the opening night of Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour in Rutherford, New Jersey, on May 22. The proud grandmother captured a video of Beyoncé sharing a heartfelt exchange with her youngest daughter, Rumi Carter, as they stood on stage together.
In the touching clip, Rumi wears a white coat that matches Beyoncé’s iconic outfit. As Beyoncé sings “Dangerously in Love” and her daughter stands beside her, Rumi softly sings along. Beyoncé, clearly moved, kisses her daughter on the head while Blue Ivy Carter and dancers perform behind them. Moments later, Blue gently guides Rumi off stage, showcasing the sweet sisterly bond the Carter children share.
Tina shared the video on social media, writing,
“My beautiful grandbaby Rumi singing with her mom and wearing a matching coat is the cutest moment ever.”
Rumi Carter Says Being on Stage “Feels Powerful”
Rumi’s surprise appearances on the tour have charmed fans, and during a stop on her Matriarch book tour in Brooklyn on May 19, Tina Knowles gave insight into how her granddaughter feels about being in the spotlight.
“You know my granddaughter Rumi told me, I said, ‘How do you feel when you wave and everybody screams?’ She said, ‘It feels powerful.’ I was like, ‘Oh. I see what you mean,’” Tina shared with a smile.
At just six years old, Rumi already seems to be embracing the energy of the stage, much like her mother and older sister before her.
Tina Clears the Air on Viral Mic Moment
Tina also addressed a viral moment from the tour when Rumi reached for Beyoncé’s microphone during a speech. Online speculation suggested Tina was scolding her granddaughter, but she clarified what really happened.
“She was pulling,” Tina explained. “I was like, ‘Oh God, that’s all that needs to happen is that the mic hits her in the face, and they say Beyoncé hit her in the face.’”
Far from a scolding, Tina was simply concerned for her granddaughter’s safety in that high-energy moment. She added that being in the front row and experiencing the show live was thrilling and called the moment “special.”
A Legacy of Empowerment Continues
From Beyoncé’s commanding stage presence to Blue Ivy’s graceful performances and now Rumi’s charming debut, the Carter family legacy is unfolding in real-time. With Tina Knowles lovingly cheering them on, fans are not just watching a tour — they’re witnessing a powerful multigenerational story of talent, love, and empowerment.
