Trump says he once got along with Diddy but hints their rocky past could affect a potential pardon

Donald Trump is addressing the question on everyone’s lips: Would he pardon Sean “Diddy” Combs?

During a sit-down interview on Newsmax’s “Finnerty” Friday, the former president didn’t outright say “no” — but he didn’t say “yes” either. Instead, Trump offered a carefully worded, eyebrow-raising response that hints at personal tension between the two high-profile figures.

🎤 “We Were Friendly… But Then He Got Hostile”

Trump told host Rob Finnerty that he and Diddy “got along great” back in the day, describing the music mogul as someone who “seemed like a nice guy.” But that warm tone quickly cooled as Trump recalled Diddy’s public hostility during his presidency.

“When I ran for office, he was very hostile to me,” Trump said.
“And that can cloud our judgment sometimes.”

That phrase — “cloud our judgment” — is already sparking speculation about whether Trump’s decision will be personal, political, or somewhere in between.

🔒 Diddy’s Legal Drama: The Quick Recap

The question of a pardon comes after Diddy was convicted on two counts of the Mann Act — a federal statute that criminalizes transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. However, he was acquitted of the more serious charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking.

📝 Charges at a Glance:

  • ✅ Guilty: 2 counts under the Mann Act
  • ❌ Not guilty: Racketeering, sex trafficking

With a sentencing hearing scheduled for October 3, all eyes are now on Judge Arun Subramanian, who’s expected to rule on Diddy’s bail motion in the coming weeks.

🕵️ Trump and Diddy’s Past: Friends to Frenemies?

Trump’s relationship with Diddy — once seemingly cordial — soured during the 2016 and 2020 elections, when Diddy joined a wave of artists and celebrities who publicly criticized Trump’s administration. In 2020, Diddy even launched a political party called Our Black Party, aiming to push back on what he saw as injustices under Trump’s leadership.

“We can’t keep dealing with lies and division,” Diddy said at the time.
“We need real change.”

So, when Finnerty asked Trump about a pardon, the former president’s pause — and subtle shade — wasn’t exactly surprising.

🔗 Behind the Scenes: White House Backchannel?

TMZ previously broke the story that Trump’s inner circle has been in communication with Diddy’s legal team about the possibility of a presidential pardon.

While no formal requests have been confirmed by either party, sources claim the decision may hinge on how Judge Subramanian rules on Diddy’s motion for bail and whether new evidence surfaces before the October sentencing.

This wouldn’t be Trump’s first high-profile pardon tied to pop culture. During his presidency, he famously granted clemency to:

  • Lil Wayne
  • Kodak Black
  • Alice Johnson (championed by Kim Kardashian)

Could Diddy be next?

🤐 “You’ll Have to Watch the Video…”

Trump left the door slightly ajar, urging viewers to watch the rest of the Newsmax interview to hear his full response.

“You’ll have to tune in. It gets interesting,” Trump teased.

And based on the clip circulating online, he wasn’t lying. The conversation dives into Diddy’s music empire, political stances, and the optics of presidential forgiveness.

🗣️ Internet Reacts: “Is This About Justice or Revenge?”

Social media had immediate thoughts:

“So it’s personal, not presidential?” — @politipopnews
“Trump’s playing chess. If Diddy apologizes publicly, watch him flip.” — @urbanlensmedia
“This is wild. The fact that Trump might pardon Diddy says everything about 2024.” — @queenteaspiller

Meanwhile, fans of Diddy — and even some political analysts — are asking if Trump is using the situation to build political clout ahead of the 2024 election.

⚖️ What’s Next for Diddy?

The music mogul is currently awaiting Judge Subramanian’s ruling on bail while preparing for his October 3 sentencing. Legal experts say the Mann Act conviction could carry up to 10 years per count, though it’s rare to receive the maximum without aggravating circumstances.

💭 Will Trump Pull the Trigger?

Trump is famous for being unpredictable — and for using pardons as political tools. While his comments on Diddy weren’t exactly forgiving, they also weren’t a firm “no.”

He acknowledged their former friendship, cited Diddy’s past hostility, and hinted that judgment may be affected by personal grievances. It’s a classic Trump tightrope: dramatic, vague, and full of potential headlines.

💬 Should Trump pardon Diddy?
