Tyler, The Creator is known for his high-energy performances and creative genius, but behind the scenes, the Chromakopia World Tour is taking a toll. In a candid interview during a Converse event in London on May 28, the rapper admitted that the constant touring has left him feeling mentally drained and claustrophobic, especially while traveling in Europe.
“The unfamiliarity, a different bed every night, the food—I’m not from this side of the world… it’s draining,” he said.
“It’s just brand new every day, and after a while, it gets a bit stressful.”
“I Can’t Go Anywhere Without a Bunch of Security”
Tyler shared that he’s overwhelmed by the lack of solitude, explaining that European cities—while beautiful—can feel claustrophobic compared to his Los Angeles roots.
“My temperament is Los Angeles. Wide streets, low buildings, you see the sky all the time,” he said. “A lot of places out here in Europe… it feels heavy. I can’t go anywhere without a bunch of security.”
He also mentioned the emotional and physical stress of life on the road, where even simple things like finding food can become mentally exhausting.
Shows Bring Joy, But the Strain Is Real
Despite the hardships, Tyler acknowledged that the crowd energy and electric shows are what keep him going.
“What makes up for it is that these shows are incredible, and the people are excited.”
“You Gotta Be Delusional to Create”
In true Tyler fashion, the conversation took a reflective turn. He shared that the mindset of an artist requires a level of delusion—one that not everyone understands.
“To make stuff, you gotta be delusional,” he said. “And when you’re delusional, you need people around you that trust you… I knew what I wanted to do since I was five years old.”
Chromakopia Tour Ends in September
Tyler, The Creator is currently headlining his Chromakopia World Tour, which is set to wrap up in September 2025. As fans continue to show up in droves, Tyler’s transparency about the mental toll of touring reminds us that even the most successful artists face burnout behind the scenes.
