Popular Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has made a courageous disclosure about her past, revealing that she has been sexually assaulted five times. The emotional revelation came during an appearance on Biola Bayo’s talk show, Talk to B, where she discussed her experiences and took a firm stance against rape and its apologists.

Iyabo Ojo’s Zero-Tolerance Stance on Sexual Assault

Iyabo Ojo emphasized her unwavering commitment to speaking out against sexual violence, regardless of the perpetrator. She expressed frustration with societal tendencies to excuse or justify such heinous acts, vowing to hold perpetrators accountable.

“I was raped five times in my life. I discovered we have a lot of rape apologists. I don’t care who the person is; if that person is my son, I am going to come for him unapologetically,” she declared.

The actress’s forthrightness underscores her dedication to raising awareness about sexual violence and its devastating impact on survivors.

    A Complicated Family History

In addition to sharing her experiences of sexual assault, Iyabo Ojo also opened up about her challenging family background. She revealed her father’s struggles with addiction to drugs and alcohol, which ultimately led to his death at the young age of 40.

“My dad did everything—alcohol and drugs—so it messed him up at a young age. He died at 40,” she said.

Iyabo grew up with her grandmother, only meeting her mother for the first time at the age of seven.

“I grew up with my grandmother, who is half Delta and half Igbo. I think I was seven before I knew my mother,” she recounted.

The actress’s journey highlights the resilience and strength it took to overcome these early life challenges.

Iyabo Ojo and Marriage: A Personal Reflection

The actress also touched on a defining moment in her personal life when she chose to marry against her family’s wishes.

“The only time I lacked was when I insisted this was the man I was going to get married to because, at that time, my dad and I disowned each other,” Iyabo shared, hinting at the complexities of her relationship with her late father.

Iyabo Ojo: A Voice for Change

Iyabo Ojo’s willingness to share her story reflects her commitment to advocating for survivors of sexual violence and breaking societal taboos surrounding these issues. Her transparency about her family history and personal struggles adds depth to her advocacy, showing how resilience can lead to growth and healing.

    A Call for Accountability

By speaking out about her experiences, Iyabo Ojo has reignited important conversations around sexual violence and the need for accountability. Her story is a powerful reminder that survivors deserve justice, support, and understanding, and that societal attitudes must change to protect vulnerable individuals.

    Conclusion: Strength Through Adversity

Iyabo Ojo’s revelations are a testament to her strength and courage. As one of Nollywood’s most celebrated actresses, she is using her platform to advocate for justice and societal change. Her story serves as an inspiration to many, proving that it’s possible to rise above adversity and use one’s voice to make a difference.
