Uncle Chumi Shifts Focus from Managing Artists to Music Career After Investment Setback
Uncle Chumi, the controversial TikTok star, has officially announced her entry into the music industry with the release of her new single “Gwokute Gwoba”. Known for her bold presence on social media, Uncle Chumi revealed that she is stepping away from her role as an artist’s manager to pursue a full-time music career.
In an exclusive interview, Uncle Chumi shared her personal reasons for the switch. She explained that her decision was driven by frustration with her previous role in TikTok content creation and artist management. Despite being in the industry for a while, she found herself longing for a more fulfilling path in music rather than behind-the-scenes work.
The Road from Manager to Musician
Uncle Chumi had been active in the Ugandan music scene, not only as a content creator but also as a manager. She previously managed Mary Bata, a well-known Ugandan artist. However, her journey took a disappointing turn after a financial investment she made in Mary Bata’s career ended in significant losses.
According to Uncle Chumi, she had invested a substantial amount of money in Mary Bata’s music career but faced betrayal when the funds were misused. She revealed that the money was instead spent on financing traditional marital ceremonies for Bata’s lover, Mr. Semanda, leaving her with nothing to show for her investment. “At first, I was Mary Bata’s manager, and she married a man (Ssemanda), financing the functions with my money. In the end, they chewed all my money, and I turned to zero. That’s when I quit that role,” she said, expressing her deep disappointment in the situation.
Exploring Other Ventures: Comedy and Government Work
After the setback in artist management, Uncle Chumi didn’t give up on her career aspirations. She tried her hand at comedy and even took up a position as a government messenger. However, neither of these roles brought her the success she hoped for. “I also tried doing comedy and working as a government messenger, but none of them were paying off,” she confessed.
These experiences pushed Uncle Chumi to seek a more stable and rewarding path, which ultimately led her to music. Fed up with her previous roles, she decided to turn the spotlight on herself and pursue her own musical career, where she could express herself fully and take control of her destiny.
Joining the Music Industry Full-Time
With the release of “Gwokute Gwoba”, Uncle Chumi officially enters the Ugandan music industry. She is determined to make her mark, using the lessons learned from her previous experiences and her growing fanbase on platforms like TikTok.
Uncle Chumi’s transition to music comes at a time when several other social media stars, including Alien Skin, Biswanka, and Tom Dee, have also switched from content creation to active music careers. As the music industry continues to evolve, the influence of social media personalities like Uncle Chumi is undeniable, and many are curious to see how her unique style will resonate with music lovers across Uganda.
A New Chapter for Uncle Chumi
Uncle Chumi’s story is a testament to resilience and reinvention. After setbacks in the entertainment industry, she is determined to create a name for herself as a musician and leave her mark in the Ugandan music scene. With her catchy new single and a fresh perspective on her career, she is ready to take on the next challenge — proving that sometimes, the best way to move forward is by embracing change and pursuing what truly excites you.
