The WNBA has completed its investigation into allegations that Angel Reese and other Chicago Sky players were subjected to racist hate during their May 17 matchup against the Indiana Fever, and according to league officials, no evidence has been found to support the claims.

The league launched a formal review after social media reports suggested that fans at Gainbridge Fieldhouse hurled disturbing, racially charged remarks at Reese and her teammates while they faced off against rookie sensation Caitlin Clark.

However, in a statement released Tuesday afternoon, the league confirmed that investigators were unable to substantiate any of the alleged abuse.

“Based on information gathered to date, including from relevant fans, team and arena staff, as well as audio and video review of the game, we have not substantiated it,” the WNBA said.

Angel Reese Responds to Allegations

Although the league didn’t find evidence to back the claims, Angel Reese showed strong support for the investigation earlier this month. Speaking to reporters on May 20, the Sky rookie emphasized that there’s “no place in the game” for the kind of behavior that had been alleged.

Indiana Fever Reacts to the Outcome

The Indiana Fever also issued a statement on Tuesday, applauding the WNBA’s diligence and reiterating the organization’s commitment to inclusivity and respect for all players.

“We appreciate the swift and thorough process undertaken by the WNBA to investigate these allegations, which were not substantiated,” the team said.

“At Gainbridge Fieldhouse, we are committed to providing the best possible basketball experience for players and fans where hate speech has absolutely no place.”

The Fever also praised their loyal fanbase, calling Indiana home to “the world’s greatest fans” and expressing excitement for the rest of the season.

Moving Forward

While the WNBA’s investigation didn’t uncover any direct incidents of racist abuse, the league’s quick response and commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive environment were widely applauded by fans and players alike.

As the WNBA season heats up, all eyes will remain on Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark — both of whom are continuing to shine on the court and draw national attention with each game.
