Bun B recently reflected on the profound support he received from Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA following the loss of his UGK partner, Pimp C. During a heartfelt conversation with Raekwon on Hip-Hop Wired’s “I Got Questions” series, Bun shared how RZA helped him navigate grief after Pimp C’s untimely death.
“When I lost Pimp, a lot of people called and offered their condolences,” Bun said. “One of the people that called me was RZA. Y’all had just lost [Ol’ Dirty Bastard]. He reached out to me and was like, ‘I just wanted to call you and offer my condolences and just talk with you because we recently went through something like that.’ And we just talked about grief and loss.”
A Moment of Healing
Bun B revealed that his first conversation ever with RZA revolved around coping with loss. “It was such a blessing,” he recalled. “It was words like that from him that really gave me strength at the moment to know, like, okay, maybe not today, but eventually, I’m gonna find a way to deal with this and move forward but still honor him.”
Iconic Hip-Hop Style: Raekwon’s “Snow Beach” Jacket
The conversation also turned to iconic moments in hip-hop fashion. Raekwon’s “Snow Beach” pullover jacket, famously worn in Wu-Tang Clan’s “Can It All Be So Simple” video, came up as Bun B showcased his own version of the jacket.
Bun called it “the most sought-after Polo piece ever.” Raekwon shared the story of how he found the now-legendary jacket in a downtown Brooklyn store, emphasizing that it was part of his effort to stand out during the video shoot.
“I had to look around, like no way that s—t is sitting in here,” Rae said, recalling his disbelief at finding the jacket.
UGK and Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin’” Almost Didn’t Happen
Elsewhere in the interview, Bun B detailed how UGK nearly passed on the opportunity to collaborate with Jay-Z on “Big Pimpin’,” a track that went on to become one of the most iconic collaborations in hip-hop history.
Raekwon also reflected on his solo career and shared how he was selected as one of the Wu-Tang members to secure a solo deal with another label, a defining moment in his own journey.
