Def Jam Recordings is set to mark its 40th anniversary with the launch of its own dedicated channel, providing fans with an immersive experience that showcases the label’s rich history. The channel will feature a mix of music videos, documentaries, and live performances from legendary artists such as LL Cool J, Mariah Carey, John Legend, and DMX.

    A Milestone Celebration

In a statement, Def Jam hailed the channel as a key milestone in its anniversary celebrations. “The Def Jam channel will be the culmination of a year of anniversary celebrations for the groundbreaking record label,” the statement read.

This marks the first time a major Universal Music Group (UMG) label has created its own television channel, signaling a new era of innovation in how labels connect with fans.

    Where to Watch

The free, ad-supported channel will debut on Tubi for U.S. viewers, while international audiences can access it through Samsung TV+. In addition to live programming, Tubi will offer on-demand access to exclusive Def Jam artist performances and content via a partnership with UMG’s Mercury Studios.

The launch follows a year of commemorative events, including a special broadcast on Apple TV and pop-up experiences in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, all of which underscore Def Jam’s cultural significance.

    Leadership Perspectives

Def Jam Chairman and CEO Tunji Balogun reflected on the label’s legacy and its forward-thinking initiatives. “Over the last 40 years, Def Jam has consistently led the charge in pioneering new ways for our artists to celebrate their creativity and connect with fans,” he said. “As we continue to evolve within the music industry, we are thrilled to partner with Tubi to reach new audiences on innovative platforms.”

Charlene Thomas, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Special Projects at Def Jam, highlighted the importance of direct fan engagement through FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channels. “Def Jam, as a cultural trailblazer, is perfectly positioned to lead this groundbreaking partnership with Tubi,” she said.

Dan Borrelli, Senior Vice President of Digital Content and Partnerships at Mercury, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing accessibility. “These platforms enable artists to connect with fans effortlessly, fostering lasting relationships. We’re excited to join forces with Tubi and Def Jam to bring this vision to life.”

    What’s Next?

The channel launch represents Def Jam’s commitment to redefining how music is experienced, bridging the gap between its storied past and an innovative future. By leveraging digital platforms like Tubi and Samsung TV+, the label is poised to reach a new generation of fans while celebrating its iconic legacy.
