Niall Horan found a deeply personal way to honor his late One Direction bandmate Liam Payne during the opening night of his “Dinner Party” tour in Birmingham, England.
After performing his song “End Of An Era,” Horan played a recording featuring Payne’s voice for the crowd.
In the emotional audio, Payne reflected on his life and the unexpected turns that came with his journey to fame.
“We thought something might happen but never anything like this,” Payne says in the recording.
His voice continues with a reflection on his career and how far he had come: “And I always try to remind myself of where I’ve come from and where I managed to get to in my life. It’s amazing really.”
The moment gave Horan’s first night of the tour an unmistakably personal connection to his former bandmate, whose death in 2024 marked a devastating loss for the One Direction family and its fans.
Horan is not the only former One Direction member to pay tribute to Payne during a major concert run.
Harry Styles also honored Payne during his final Wembley Stadium shows this summer, giving his late bandmate a tribute during his London performances.
Payne died in October 2024 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31.
Horan and Payne spent years together as members of One Direction after the group formed on “The X Factor” in 2010. Alongside Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik, they went on to become one of the biggest pop groups of their generation.
Now, with Horan back onstage for his own tour, Payne’s voice has become part of a moment that keeps his memory connected to the music and the fans who grew up with One Direction.
