Ayobami Sodiq, popularly known as Spending, a close associate of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (better known as Mohbad), has addressed inconsistencies regarding the timeline of his last encounter with the singer.
Time Discrepancy Explained
In a post shared on his Instagram page on Monday, Sodiq clarified that he last saw Mohbad alive between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., contrary to an earlier statement in which he claimed he had seen the singer at 9 p.m. the same day. He attributed the discrepancy to emotional trauma and anxiety stemming from Mohbad’s sudden death.
“The timing I gave is not accurate,” Sodiq wrote. “I had suffered emotionally, dealing with anxiety and psychological, mental, and physical trauma from Mohbad’s unexpected passing, who I so miss.”
Wrongful Accusations
Sodiq revealed that he was wrongfully accused of being present at Mohbad’s residence on the day of the singer’s death, leading to his detention at a police station. He noted that this distressful experience left him in an unstable frame of mind, contributing to the inconsistencies in his initial statements.
“I was wrongfully accused of being present in Mohbad’s house on the day he passed away and being detained at the police station. I wasn’t in the right frame of mind when I was questioned,” he explained.
The Context of the Confusion
Sodiq recalled that he initially made the incorrect statement during a February 2024 TikTok livestream with content creator Westo. During the session, he expressed gratitude to supporters who had donated to secure his release from detention. When asked about his last encounter with Mohbad, Sodiq mistakenly mentioned 9 p.m.
“I appeared at Westo’s livestream on his TikTok platform to appreciate everyone who donated money towards my release, which was the plan. However, Westo asked me the last time I saw Mohbad before his demise, and I said 9 p.m. after we got back from the show,” he said.
A Plea for Understanding
Sodiq apologized for any confusion his earlier statements may have caused, emphasizing the psychological toll Mohbad’s death had taken on him.
This clarification aims to address rumors and suspicions surrounding his connection to Mohbad’s untimely passing, which continues to be a source of grief for fans and loved ones.
