Nollywood producer Adanma Luke has courageously shared her emotional struggles following the devastating death of actor Junior Pope, who tragically passed away in a boat accident on April 10, 2024. The accident, which occurred on the River Niger in Asaba, Delta State, claimed the lives of four other crew members, leaving the Nigerian film industry in mourning.

The loss of Junior Pope, who was en route to a movie set at the time, sent shockwaves across Nollywood and deeply affected Adanma, the producer of the film he was set to star in.

A Dark Period of Grief and Depression

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Adanma described the overwhelming grief that followed the tragedy. She revealed battling severe depression and even contemplating suicide, compounded by intense criticism from social media and the families of the deceased.

“It was indeed a very dark period for me,” Adanma wrote. “I had to stop breastfeeding my baby, who was less than three months old, due to the sadness in my heart. The emotional strain, combined with harsh words from the families and online fans, made me feel like I was drowning.”

The Role of Social Media: Both a Lifeline and a Source of Pain

Adanma shared how her phone became both a source of solace and suffering. While it connected her to supportive messages from friends and fans, it also exposed her to harsh criticism that deepened her despair.

“To be sincere, I was online because my phone was the closest thing to me at that point. Hurtful words were thrown at me, but I also found comfort in the kindness of some good friends and fans who chose to love me regardless,” she explained.

Adanma also revealed that her mother stepped in to care for her baby during this difficult time, ensuring the child wasn’t affected by the emotional turmoil.

“My mom took away my child so I wouldn’t breastfeed with sadness,” Adanma shared. “She wanted to protect both of us during this painful time.”

Finding Support in Uche Nancy’s Unwavering Kindness

Amidst the darkness, Adanma found a beacon of hope in fellow Nollywood producer Uche Nancy, whose kindness and encouragement helped her navigate her grief.

“With tears in my eyes, I reached out to @uchenancy,” Adanma wrote. “She reassured me, saying, ‘Ada, don’t worry, I dey for you. Let me know if there’s more to do, and I won’t abandon you.’ Her words lifted my soul and gave me strength when I was at my lowest.”

Uche not only provided financial assistance but also consistently checked in to ensure Adanma was coping emotionally.

“She spoke to me as if she was living my pain and gave me reasons to stay alive and strong,” Adanma added.

    Gratitude and Lessons Learned

As the year draws to a close, Adanma took a moment to reflect on the unwavering support she received from Uche Nancy and others who stood by her.

“Please help me say a kind prayer for @uchenancy. She didn’t just help me financially but also ensured I was okay emotionally. I can’t end my 2024 without appreciating her. May God continue to bless this beautiful, hardworking woman,” she wrote.

Adanma’s gratitude highlights the importance of compassion and community in overcoming grief.

A Reminder of Resilience in Nollywood

The tragic death of Junior Pope and the subsequent struggles of Adanma Luke shed light on the emotional toll faced by those in the entertainment industry. Yet, through kindness, support, and resilience, healing becomes possible.
