Veteran Nigerian music executive and CEO of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe, popularly known as Baba Keke, has shared insights into the challenges of managing iconic singer Innocent Idibia, better known as 2Face, during his time with the label. Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, Ogungbe discussed how the label worked to shield 2Face from distractions, particularly those involving women.

The Challenges of Managing 2Face’s Popularity

2Face, celebrated for his immense talent and global hits like African Queen, was also known for his charm and charisma, which attracted significant attention from female fans. According to Ogungbe, the record label took measures to limit 2Face’s interactions with women to keep him focused on his music career.

“When 2Face was with us [at Kennis Music], we prevented him from seeing girls. Girls would come looking for him all the time, but we didn’t allow him to see any of them,” Ogungbe revealed.

The veteran music executive explained that once 2Face left the record label, their ability to influence his choices became limited.

“When he left our record label, there was nothing we could do about the situation anymore,” he added.

Handling 2Face’s Reputation as a Womanizer

At the peak of his career, 2Face frequently made headlines for fathering children with multiple women, a reputation that comedians often joked about. Ogungbe, however, maintained a hands-off approach when it came to these personal matters, respecting 2Face’s autonomy as an adult.

“Even when he was becoming the butt of jokes by some comedians [for being a womanizer], I didn’t call him to question him because he’s a matured man. Every man has his cross,” Ogungbe remarked.

2Face’s Journey: From Controversy to Stability

Despite the controversies surrounding his relationships, 2Face eventually found stability when he married Annie Idibia, one of his baby mamas, in 2012. Their union has become one of Nollywood’s most closely followed love stories, with both partners navigating the challenges of fame together.

Kennis Music’s Legacy in Shaping Nigerian Entertainment

The story of 2Face’s time at Kennis Music highlights the label’s pivotal role in shaping the careers of some of Nigeria’s most successful artists. Under Ogungbe’s leadership, Kennis Music not only produced award-winning records but also guided artists through the complexities of fame and public scrutiny.

A Reflection on Fame and Personal Choices

Ogungbe’s revelations offer a glimpse into the unique challenges of managing an artist of 2Face’s stature. His remarks underscore the delicate balance between guiding artists professionally and respecting their personal lives.

As one of Africa’s most iconic music figures, 2Face’s journey serves as a testament to the highs and lows of life in the spotlight. Despite the controversies, his legacy as a trailblazer in the Nigerian music industry remains intact.

    Conclusion

Kenny Ogungbe’s reflections remind us of the intricate dynamics of artist management, especially when navigating fame and personal relationships. As fans continue to celebrate 2Face’s musical achievements, his story offers valuable lessons about resilience, growth, and the enduring impact of mentorship in the entertainment industry.
