The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled an impressive lineup of Nigeria’s biggest music stars for the state’s end-of-year party, taking place tonight, Tuesday, December 31, 2024. Among the headliners are Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, and Seyi Vibez, promising an unforgettable celebration to usher in 2025.

Announcing the event on his official social media platforms, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the party’s purpose: to showcase the vibrant culture and unique energy of Lagos.

A Grand Celebration of Lagos’ Spirit

The event, dubbed the Greater Lagos Countdown 2025, is set to be the biggest countdown celebration in Africa. Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significance of the event as more than just a concert.

“The Greater Lagos Countdown 2025 will feature the continent’s biggest music superstars: Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, and Seyi Vibez – all gathered for a night to remember,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

The celebration spans five key locations across Lagos: Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe, making it accessible to residents and visitors alike.

“The Greater Lagos Countdown is more than just a concert; it’s a celebration of our vibrant culture, our unity, and the indomitable Lagos spirit,” the governor added.

Detty December: A Prelude to the Countdown

The Lagos State Government has been at the forefront of creating memorable experiences during the holiday season. Earlier in December, Lagos hosted the widely popular Detty December, attracting visitors from around the globe. The end-of-year party serves as the culmination of these festivities, showcasing Lagos as a cultural and entertainment hub.

Notable Absences: Davido and Political Tensions

While the lineup includes some of Africa’s most celebrated artists, fans have noted the absence of Davido (David Adeleke), a superstar often associated with major Nigerian events.

The omission has sparked discussions, particularly given the strained relationships between Davido and other headliners like Wizkid and Burna Boy. Furthermore, Davido’s vocal criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government under President Bola Tinubu may have influenced his exclusion.

Davido has previously condemned the APC government for the economic hardship facing Nigerians, which could explain his absence from an event sponsored by the APC-led Lagos State Government.

    What to Expect Tonight

As Lagos prepares for the Greater Lagos Countdown 2025, attendees can expect electrifying performances, cultural showcases, and the unmatched energy synonymous with Lagos celebrations.

Governor Sanwo-Olu urged residents and visitors to join the event, promising a night to remember:

“Join us for a night of music, cultural showcases, and unmatched Lagos energy as we welcome 2025 the Lagos way – in grand style. This is Lagos. We’re different.”

    Conclusion: Celebrating Lagos’ Vibrancy

The Greater Lagos Countdown 2025 is set to be a testament to Lagos’ reputation as Africa’s entertainment capital. With a star-studded lineup, multiple venues, and the unwavering Lagos spirit, this end-of-year celebration will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression.

As fans eagerly await tonight’s performances, the event symbolizes not just the end of a year, but the promise of a brighter and more vibrant future for Lagos.
