SZA Opens Up About Her Health Struggles and Body Image While Responding to Trolls on Social Media

SZA is speaking out against body-shaming trolls who have targeted her on social media. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the Grammy-winning artist shared a throwback video reflecting on her time spent at her mother’s house during the 2020 quarantine. The experience was difficult for SZA, as it caused significant mental health struggles.

Yall say weird shit like this and wonder why I’m different and don’t feel comfortable w yall anymore . Lol

    — SZA (@sza) December 30, 2024

“Covid was hard. My granny had just died and I was hella depressed n masking. Not eating. Over working out,” she wrote. “But I always had my childhood home to n get lost. Still do. Grateful to be in a much better mental space now. s/o to those days tho.”

    SZA Responds to Body-Shaming Criticism:
In response to her heartfelt post, one social media user commented that SZA had “got big” during the quarantine period. SZA quickly responded, clarifying her feelings about the comment. “Yall say weird s— like this and wonder why I’m different. I don’t feel comfortable w yall anymore,” she said. “Yall do realize I mean different as in I don’t go on live+ talk. And don’t communicate w yall like that anymore lmao not different as in change my appearance tf.????”

Her response highlighted the toll that online body-shaming can take on mental health, adding a layer of context to the ongoing conversation about public figures and their relationship with social media.

SZA Talks Mental Health and Physical Changes:
In an interview with British Vogue, SZA also spoke candidly about her decision to undergo a BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) surgery. Reflecting on her experience, she admitted that the procedure wasn’t as necessary as she once thought. “It just wasn’t super necessary,” she shared. “I have other shthat I need to work on about myself… I need to get my fcking mental health together.”

Despite the decision, SZA emphasized that self-improvement doesn’t always need to be tied to external changes. “Not to say you can’t do those things simultaneously. Just, for me, I realize wherever you go, there you’ll be,” she added, recognizing the importance of focusing on internal well-being.

The Reality of Recovery and Self-Acceptance:
SZA also opened up about the challenges she faced during her recovery from the surgery. “I gained all this weight from being immobile while recovering and trying to preserve the fat. It was just so stupid,” she admitted. “But who gives a f—? You got a BBL, you realize you didn’t need the s—. It doesn’t matter.”

Despite her candid remarks, SZA shared that she is grateful for her body and the changes it has gone through. “I love my butt. Don’t get me wrong. My booty looks nice. And I’m grateful that it looks pretty much,” she explained. “I don’t know, sometimes natural, but I don’t even care. It’s something that I wanted.”

    What’s Next for SZA:
On the music front, SZA is gearing up for her Grand National Tour, set to begin in April. The stadium tour will support Kendrick Lamar’s latest album, GNX, with both SZA and Kendrick being prominent artists under Top Dawg Entertainment.

As SZA continues to evolve both personally and professionally, her openness about her struggles with mental health, body image, and self-acceptance provides a refreshing and relatable perspective for fans.
