Davido Reacts as Spyro Accuses Ubi Franklin of Using His Name in $5,000 Performance Scandal

Afrobeats superstar Davido has addressed allegations involving his name in a financial dispute between fellow artist Spyro and music executive Ubi Franklin. The saga unfolded after Spyro accused Ubi Franklin of using Davido’s name to compel him to perform at an event, only to refuse payment afterward.

    Spyro’s Allegations: “Broad Daylight Scam”

Spyro revealed that Ubi Franklin had approached him with a performance offer, claiming it was on behalf of Davido. The singer agreed to perform for a fee of $5,000. However, after delivering his performance, Spyro stated that he discovered Davido had no involvement in the arrangement.

“On getting there, David was on stage. He came back, and Ubi told me, ‘You’re going on stage now.’ Before I knew it, the MC had announced my name,” Spyro recounted. “After the performance, I asked Ubi, ‘Where’s my money?’ That’s when he told me the truth: ‘David doesn’t even know about this.’ This is broad daylight scam, bro!”

Ubi Franklin’s Counterclaim: Spyro Owes Me ₦2 Million

In response to Spyro’s allegations, Ubi Franklin claimed he withheld the $5,000 payment because Spyro allegedly owed him 10% of a car purchase deal Franklin facilitated. According to Franklin, the singer still owes him ₦2 million from the transaction.

“I withheld the $5,000 because it was part of the payment Spyro owes me from the car deal,” Franklin explained.

    Davido’s Reaction: A Simple Apology

As his name became entangled in the scandal, Davido issued a brief apology to Spyro and fans. Reposting a video of Ubi Franklin’s counterclaim on his Instastory, Davido wrote:
    “Pls, I’m sorry.”

The superstar’s response reflects his desire to distance himself from the controversy while maintaining professionalism.

    Mixed Reactions from Fans

The accusations and counterclaims have sparked widespread reactions on social media, with fans sharing divided opinions:

    • @NaijaBeatz: “Why drag Davido’s name into this? He’s just an innocent party in this drama.”
    • @SpyroFanBase: “If Ubi withheld payment, that’s wrong. Handle your personal disputes separately.”
    • @MusicLover256: “Davido apologizing shows class. He doesn’t want unnecessary drama tied to his name.”

    Final Thoughts

The dispute between Spyro and Ubi Franklin underscores the complexities of business dealings in the music industry. While both parties continue to present their sides of the story, Davido’s apology highlights his commitment to maintaining a positive image amidst the controversy.

Fans now await further developments, hoping for a resolution that prioritizes professionalism and accountability.
