A horrific shooting erupted at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis Wednesday morning during a scheduled school Mass, leaving two children dead and at least 17 others injured, including 14 students.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Robin Westman, a male born as Robert Westman, according to FBI Director Kash Patel. The FBI is investigating the incident as domestic terrorism and a hate crime targeting Catholics.

    Timeline of the Attack

Police say the shooting began around 8:30 AM local time. The suspect, reportedly in his early 20s and dressed in all black, opened fire on the school building using a rifle, shotgun, and pistol, firing dozens of rounds through the windows as students and staff participated in Mass.

“Bullets hit children and others worshipping inside the church,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

The gunman later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene. Despite initial reports, O’Hara confirmed no explosives were found.

    Response from Officials

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey urged the public to come together in the aftermath of the tragedy, stating children and parents should not live in fear of school shootings.

“This is a moment where we need to do more than offer thoughts and prayers,” Frey said.

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar shared the emotional impact of the attack on her former employee’s daughter, who witnessed friends being shot during the Mass.

Governor Tim Walz issued a statement shortly after the attack, expressing prayers for the children and teachers affected during the first week of school:

“I’ve been briefed on a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School… I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence.”

President Donald Trump also addressed the tragedy via Truth Social, confirming the White House is monitoring the situation and urging Americans to pray for everyone involved.

    Investigation Underway

Authorities, including the FBI, ATF, Minneapolis Police, and Minnesota State Patrol, are actively investigating the shooting. Federal sources report Westman posted multiple online videos referencing violence, but his exact motive is still under investigation.

Local outlets KARE, KSTP, NBC, and WCCO-TV have confirmed the suspect’s identity, while the FBI continues to classify the attack as a hate crime against Catholics.

    Community in Shock

Annunciation Catholic School, serving pre-K through 8th grade, had a schoolwide Mass scheduled at 8:15 AM. Parents and community members are grappling with the devastating events, while law enforcement continues to secure the area and provide support for families and victims.

“Our hearts go out to the families and students affected,” said one local official. “This is an unimaginable tragedy for the Minneapolis community.”
