Kid Cudi is drawing a line in the sand. The rapper took to Instagram Stories on Thursday, September 18, to deliver a fiery response after Consequence accused him of sabotaging a joint album between Kanye West and Drake — and even linked him to West’s 2016 mental health crisis.
In his video statement, Cudi made it crystal clear: the claims are false, disturbing, and dangerous.
“The other day rapper Consequence made some allegations that were extremely false. The things he said were pretty f—king disturbing,” Cudi began.
Cudi Denies Stopping Kanye–Drake Collab
Consequence recently alleged that Cudi influenced Ye’s decision to walk away from the much-hyped Kanye x Drake project, which was rumored to be titled Calabasas Is the New Abu Dhabi.
But Cudi wasn’t having it.
“Let me be clear: I had nothing to do with Kanye not doing that collab album with Drake. And I damn sure had nothing to do with him being hospitalized and going to the psych ward,” he stressed.
Cudi reminded fans and critics alike that Ye has always been his own boss:
“Kanye gon’ do whatever Kanye wanna do. What I look like being like, ‘Yo, I don’t want you to do this album.’ And him being like, ‘OK.’ Yeah, right, in what universe?”
Threatening Legal Action
Cudi also revealed his team has already taken action, sending Consequence a cease-and-desist letter demanding he retract his statements immediately.
“We sent a cease-and-desist, told him to take it down and retract his statement … I need to get a retracted statement tomorrow. If not, you’ll be hearing from my lawyer, period.”
The Cleveland native didn’t stop there — he threatened to hit Consequence where it hurts:
“I’ma hit you in them pockets. That little bit of change you got gonna be mine. Keep f—ing with me, s—t is not a game.”

Consequence Fires Back
Although Consequence deleted his original remarks, he reposted Cudi’s clapback with a sarcastic caption, hinting he had “receipts” to prove his claims.
The back-and-forth has already reignited speculation about what really happened behind the scenes of the abandoned Kanye–Drake project.
The Collab That Never Was
Drake and Kanye first teased their joint album back in 2017, with rumors swirling around the title Calabasas Is the New Abu Dhabi. At the time, fans imagined it would be a culture-shifting event, uniting two of hip-hop’s biggest icons on a full-length project.
But the project fizzled out as tensions between the two artists mounted, leading to years of subliminal disses, public jabs, and social media spats.
Even when the two briefly reconciled in 2021 for the Free Larry Hoover concert in L.A., the album never resurfaced. Now, Cudi’s name has been thrown into the blame game — a narrative he’s aggressively rejecting.
Cudi’s Complicated History With Kanye
Cudi and Ye’s relationship has always been one of hip-hop’s most fascinating. From their groundbreaking collaborations on 808s & Heartbreak and Kids See Ghosts, to very public falling outs, the two have repeatedly clashed and reconciled.
In recent years, however, their friendship has cooled. Cudi announced in 2022 that he was officially “done” working with Kanye, citing personal differences.
That history makes him an easy target for speculation — but Cudi insists this time, he’s not the villain in the story.
Fans React
Social media exploded after Cudi’s video, with reactions ranging from support to skepticism:
- “Consequence always inserting himself in Kanye drama. Cudi don’t deserve this.”
- “If Cudi really has receipts, he needs to drop them. Otherwise, this is just messy.”
- “The collab album was never gonna happen. Stop blaming Cudi.”
For many fans, the dust-up is just another reminder of how much unfinished business lingers in the Kanye–Drake universe.
What’s Next?
With legal threats already on the table, the feud between Cudi and Consequence may soon move from social media to the courtroom.
Meanwhile, Drake is gearing up for the release of his ninth studio album Iceman, while Kanye remains characteristically unpredictable with his next moves.
Whether Consequence actually produces the “receipts” he teased or backs down under legal pressure remains to be seen.
But one thing is certain: Kid Cudi isn’t playing around — and he’s ready to defend his name by any means necessary.
