Sheilah Gashumba Praises Ritah Danchall Despite Controversy Over Her Stage Performance at Dexta Daps’ Kampala Concert

Media personality Sheilah Gashumba has stepped forward to defend Ugandan dancer Ritah Danchall, following intense criticism of her performance during Dexta Daps’ concert in Kampala over the weekend.

    The Controversy

Ritah Danchall sparked outrage when she appeared on stage wearing a Gomesi, the traditional Buganda cultural dress. However, as her performance progressed, Ritah removed the Gomesi to reveal her signature dancing costume, a move that angered many concertgoers.

Critics accused Ritah of disrespecting Buganda traditions and demanded action from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC). Some fans labeled the performance as inappropriate and argued that international musicians and their dancers promote “vulgar” music and performances.

    Sheilah Gashumba’s Support for Ritah

Amid the backlash, Sheilah Gashumba publicly praised Ritah’s talent and performance, dismissing the criticism. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sheilah described Ritah as an exceptional dancer who deserves recognition on bigger platforms.

“We don’t deserve Ritah Danchall!! What a performance!!! I tell her every day that she deserves bigger stages!!! Well done, Ritah!!” Sheilah wrote.

Sheilah also gave a shout-out to Ewil Brenda, applauding her contribution and representation of the “slim mummies,” while further emphasizing that Uganda boasts world-class dancers deserving global recognition.

“Uganda has great dancers!” Sheilah added, encouraging support for local talent instead of criticism.

    Public Reaction

Sheilah’s comments have divided opinions, with some fans agreeing that Ritah showcased exceptional talent and creativity, while others believe cultural boundaries should be respected. The debate continues to gain traction on Ugandan social media, where traditional values often clash with modern performance art.

    Conclusion

While Ritah Danchall’s performance remains a topic of controversy, Sheilah Gashumba’s unwavering support highlights the need to celebrate Ugandan talent. Whether Ritah’s performance will inspire change or provoke stricter regulations remains to be seen, but it has certainly put Ugandan dancers in the spotlight.
