Diddy Spent Up to $8 Million on Lawyers in Federal Case

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ the music mogul paid between $7 million and $8 million to trial and appellate attorneys following his 2024 arrest.

Sean “Diddy” Combs has spent a fortune defending himself in federal court.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ the music mogul has paid somewhere between $7 million and $8 million to his team of high-powered trial and appellate attorneys since his arrest in New York in September 2024.

The enormous legal bill reportedly covers work by attorneys including Marc Agnifilo, Teny Geragos, Brian Steel and Nicole Westmoreland, along with others who have worked on Diddy’s defense.

For most defendants, a bill running into the millions would be almost unimaginable.

Diddy, however, is in a different financial league, with the source material describing him as having hundreds of millions of dollars in assets.

Still, spending as much as $8 million on a single criminal case illustrates just how high the stakes were.

Diddy’s Legal Team Has Cost Millions

Diddy’s legal spending stretches back to his September 2024 arrest in New York and has continued through his federal trial and appellate work.

According to sources with direct knowledge, the total amount paid to his attorneys has reached between $7 million and $8 million.

The defense team has included some of the most prominent lawyers associated with the case.

Marc Agnifilo, Teny Geragos, Brian Steel and Nicole Westmoreland are among the attorneys identified as having represented Diddy, with additional lawyers also involved.

The figure is not presented as a court-ordered amount or a publicly filed accounting of every legal expense. Rather, sources with direct knowledge provided TMZ with the estimated total Diddy has paid his lawyers.

That distinction matters because the exact figure could not be independently established from the court documents described in the provided information.

But even the lower end of the reported range—$7 million—is an extraordinary legal bill.

And the spending came as Diddy faced some of the most serious criminal allegations of his career.

Diddy Faced Racketeering and Sex Trafficking Charges

Federal prosecutors charged Diddy with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution.

The case ultimately went to an eight-week federal trial in 2025.

During the proceedings, prosecutors presented evidence and testimony surrounding Diddy’s relationships with women and his involvement in what prosecutors described as “freak offs”—marathon sexual encounters involving his then-girlfriends and male escorts.

Diddy was accused of watching and, at times, filming the encounters.

The allegations made the case one of the biggest celebrity criminal prosecutions in recent years.

For Diddy, the potential consequences were enormous.

A conviction on the most serious charges could have resulted in a substantially longer prison sentence, making the work of his defense team critical to the outcome.

Ultimately, the jury did not convict him on the racketeering conspiracy or sex trafficking charges.

Diddy Was Acquitted of the Most Serious Charges

After the eight-week trial, jurors acquitted Diddy of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.

He was, however, convicted on two counts under the Mann Act involving transportation of male escorts across state lines for prostitution.

The verdict represented a mixed outcome for the music mogul.

Diddy avoided conviction on the charges that carried the most severe potential consequences, but he was still found guilty on two federal counts.

The result was particularly significant because prosecutors had pursued a sweeping criminal case against him.

For Diddy and his defense team, the acquittals meant that the millions spent on the case had helped produce an outcome substantially different from the possibility of conviction on the most serious charges.

That did not mean Diddy walked away without prison time.

Diddy Was Sentenced to 50 Months

In October 2025, a judge sentenced Diddy to 50 months in federal prison.

He was subsequently incarcerated at Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix in New Jersey, where he remains.

The sentence followed his convictions on the two Mann Act counts.

While the verdict was not a complete exoneration, the acquittals on the racketeering and sex trafficking charges were a major development for Diddy.

He had faced the possibility of a much longer sentence if convicted on those charges.

Now, while serving his sentence, Diddy continues to deal with the fallout from the case.

And his legal expenses have become another striking part of the story.

Diddy’s Legal Battle Didn’t End With the Verdict

A federal trial of this scale requires an enormous amount of legal preparation, and Diddy’s defense has continued to involve appellate attorneys following the verdict.

That helps explain why the reported legal bill stretches beyond the trial itself.

Sources say Diddy has paid between $7 million and $8 million to his lawyers over the course of the case.

The amount is particularly eye-catching because it represents millions spent before accounting for other potential costs associated with a federal criminal defense.

For someone with Diddy’s reported wealth, the expense is significant but potentially manageable.

For most people facing criminal charges, however, a legal bill of that size would be financially impossible.

Diddy Is Still Serving His Sentence

Diddy’s legal and financial battles have continued while he serves his sentence at Fort Dix.

Last month, he was placed in solitary confinement following a physical altercation with another inmate.

Multiple sources told TMZ that Diddy got into a scuffle with the inmate after the situation became heated. Prison staff intervened and stopped the confrontation.

Both inmates were subsequently placed in solitary confinement, according to the reporting.

The incident added another chapter to Diddy’s ongoing time behind bars.

For now, his federal criminal case has produced a complicated outcome: acquittals on the most serious charges, convictions on two Mann Act counts, a 50-month sentence and millions of dollars spent on legal representation.

And according to sources with direct knowledge, the price of that defense has already reached as much as $8 million.
