Miley Cyrus is making her first public appearance since the death of her godmother, Dolly Parton — and the singer appeared to be keeping a low profile as she headed into a Los Angeles recording studio.
Cyrus was photographed Wednesday wearing an all-black outfit, including a black T-shirt, jeans, shoes and handbag. She also wore sunglasses as she made her way inside.
The emotional outing comes just one day after Parton died at age 80 following a brief battle with cancer.
Miley Cyrus Keeps Working Through Grief
Despite her somber appearance, Miley appeared to be working on music.
A microphone was clipped to her shirt collar, while a man accompanying her carried what appeared to be handheld audio equipment. It remains unclear what Cyrus was filming or recording at the studio.
Her mother, Tish Cyrus, was also photographed leaving the studio and being driven away in a vehicle.
The sighting came hours after Miley publicly addressed the devastating loss of Parton, who had been her godmother and one of the most important figures in her life.
Miley Says Dolly Will Always Be Her “Angel”
In an emotional social media tribute Wednesday, Miley said she did not feel comfortable sharing the full depth of her grief publicly because some memories with Dolly were too sacred to put on display.
But she did reveal the advice she believes her godmother would have wanted her to follow.
“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong.”
Miley added:
“I have an angel by my side. I always have.”
She also revealed that one of their final conversations centered on music and metamorphosis, adding a butterfly emoji to the message.
The singer said she would always love Dolly and wanted to make her proud as she navigates life without her.
Dolly Parton Was More Than Miley’s Godmother
The bond between Cyrus and Parton stretched well beyond their family connection.
Dolly appeared on several episodes of Hannah Montana, the Disney Channel series that turned Miley into a global star. The two also collaborated musically over the years.
Miley previously described Parton as being like a mother to her, underscoring just how deeply the country icon influenced her life and career.
Now, with Parton gone, Miley appears to be leaning into the very thing her godmother encouraged her to do: make music and keep moving forward.
Parton died Tuesday at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville after a brief battle with cancer. She was 80.
