Vivian Wilson is taking on artificial intelligence — and the timing is sure to get people talking given her complicated relationship with Elon Musk.
Elon Musk’s estranged daughter is the new face of Spanish fashion label Desigual’s “Born to Disobey” campaign, starring in a series of ads that take aim at A.I. in decidedly playful fashion.
In the campaign trailer released Tuesday, Vivian is seen hanging out at a lavish home with a robot assistant — but she isn’t exactly treating her high-tech companion with kindness.
She uses the robot as a golf tee, walks it around like a dog and eventually watches as sprinklers cause the machine to short-circuit.
Then comes the campaign’s final punchline.
“Some things aren’t meant to be fixed,” Vivian says.
The line could easily fuel speculation about whether the campaign carries a personal edge, particularly because of Vivian’s publicly strained relationship with her father. But the advertisement itself frames the message around A.I. and technology.
Vivian and Elon have been publicly at odds for years.
As previously reported, Elon has spoken negatively about Vivian since she came out as transgender, including his claim that the so-called “woke mind virus” had effectively taken his child from him. He has also claimed he was misled into approving her transition.
Vivian, meanwhile, has pushed back publicly against her father’s characterization of their relationship, saying he was not particularly involved in her life even before her transition.
The tension surfaced again in June when Vivian abruptly ended an interview after a reporter asked her about Elon.
Now, rather than discussing her father directly, Vivian is using a major fashion campaign to deliver a very different message — this time about A.I.
And she’s certainly not the only person raising alarms about the technology. Former Anthropic employee Jacob Coxon recently warned about the rapid advancement of A.I. and expressed fears about its potential consequences for humanity.
For Vivian, though, the latest message is wrapped in fashion, humor and one very unfortunate robot.
