Pusha T and Pharrell Williams have spent decades making music together. Now, the Virginia power duo is taking their legendary chemistry from the studio to the coffee table.
The pair officially launched Grindin Coffee in New York City, teaming up with historic Italian roaster Lavazza for a new lifestyle venture built around the same discipline that has fueled their creative careers.
The concept is personal for both artists. Pharrell said coffee has long been part of the duo’s creative process, particularly during the long hours spent working in the studio.
“Pusha and I have been building together since the beginning,” Williams said. “It has always been about intention and focus. Coffee has always been part of that discipline.”
For Pusha, Grindin Coffee grew directly from the duo’s demanding daily routine.
He recalled mornings that started as early as 5 a.m., with black coffee or strong espresso providing the fuel before hours of studio work and physical activity.
“Alarm goes off at 5, we’re up, and the first thing we’re doing is black coffee or the strongest espresso we can find,” Pusha said.
Then came the bike rides — sometimes covering 25 miles — before they returned to creating.
Create. Move. Create again.
That rhythm became the philosophy behind Grindin.
On Sept. 14, Pusha, Pharrell and Lavazza unveiled the brand to the public through two launch events in New York City.
The first took place at Ludlow House, followed by another celebration at Time Again. Questlove, DJ Kast One, Hxlt and other guests joined the festivities as attendees got their first taste of the new coffee.
For Pusha, Grindin isn’t positioned as simply another morning coffee brand.
“Our whole rhythm is create, move, create again. Great coffee is a part of that cycle,” he said. “It’s for people who are doing something. People who are moving. People who wake up and attack the day.”
That mindset also explains the name.
“It’s not about sipping and easing into the morning,” Pusha added. “It’s about ignition.”
From Grindin the classic Clipse anthem to Grindin Coffee, Pusha T and Pharrell are putting a new spin on a word that has been central to their creative partnership for years.
