Jhené Aiko has finally reached the top of the Billboard 200.
The Los Angeles singer-songwriter’s latest studio album, “Westside Whimsy,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, giving Aiko the first chart-topping album of her career more than a decade after she first appeared on the chart.
According to data provided by Luminate, Westside Whimsy earned 74,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during the tracking week ending Sept. 17.
Streaming drove the overwhelming majority of the debut, accounting for 70,000 units and approximately 71.33 million on-demand official streams. The album also opened at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Streaming Albums chart.
The milestone carries particular significance for Aiko as a female R&B artist.
She becomes the first female R&B artist to top the Billboard 200 in 2026, following SZA’s last No. 1 run with SOS in May 2025. Bruno Mars is the only other R&B act supplied in the data to have reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this year, with The Romantic topping the chart in March.
Aiko’s route to the summit was also anything but traditional.
She announced Westside Whimsy on Sept. 8, just three days before its Sept. 11 release, turning the project into a surprise drop. The album features a lineup of West Coast artists and longtime collaborators, including Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Tyga, Larry June and Ohma.
Despite initially being available only digitally, with physical editions not expected until January, Westside Whimsy also reached No. 25 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart.
The No. 1 debut caps a long climb for Aiko.
She first entered the Billboard 200 in November 2013 with her EP “Sail Out,” which peaked at No. 8. Since then, she has landed six projects in the chart’s top 10.
Her previous career high came with “Chilombo,” her Grammy-nominated 2020 album that peaked at No. 2.
Now, nearly 13 years after her first Billboard 200 appearance, Aiko has finally gone all the way to No. 1.
The supplied chart data puts the gap between her first Billboard 200 appearance and her first No. 1 at approximately 12 years and 10 months, placing her among a small group of acts to achieve such a long-term breakthrough.
