Lionel Richie is back in the hospital for treatment related to atrial fibrillation, forcing the legendary singer to cancel three upcoming performances on his “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.
Sources familiar with the situation told People that the 77-year-old “All Night Long” singer is currently receiving treatment for AFib, a heart condition involving an irregular and often rapid heartbeat.
Doctors are reportedly treating Richie with an AFib ablation, a minimally invasive procedure that uses targeted scars in heart tissue to block abnormal electrical signals and help restore a regular rhythm.
The procedure has also meant a sudden change to Richie’s tour schedule.
Three upcoming performances have been canceled, including a Saturday show in San Francisco, a September 30 concert in Chicago and an October 2 performance in Columbus, Ohio.
It comes after a difficult stretch for the Grammy winner, who has experienced multiple health-related hospital visits in recent months.
In August, Richie reportedly checked into a St. Louis medical facility following a concert and spent three days in intensive care while undergoing cardiac tests. He was later cleared to return home.
The latest hospitalization follows an earlier incident in June, when Richie reportedly became dizzy and felt “strange” during a performance in St. Paul. Paramedics were called to the venue, and the singer was taken to a local hospital by ambulance for evaluation.
Richie had recently been seen in public after his August hospitalization, giving fans reason to believe he was recovering. His latest treatment, however, has now interrupted his touring schedule once again.
The canceled performances are part of Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour, which has been bringing the two legendary acts together for a run of North American shows.
Representatives for the tour have not announced whether the three canceled dates will be rescheduled or whether additional performances will be affected.
For now, Richie is focused on treatment and recovery, while fans await word on his return to the stage.
