A 31-year-old man is facing murder and attempted murder charges after allegedly pushing his estranged girlfriend and their 8-month-old daughter from a 15th-floor balcony in the Bronx, leaving the young mother dead and the infant critically injured.
Police identified the woman as Nathaly Ramirez, 23, who was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center following the fall. Her daughter remained in critical but stable condition at the hospital as of Friday morning, according to the report.
The suspect, identified as Angel Carrasco, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including murder, attempted murder, manslaughter and assault.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Allerton section of the Bronx. Police responded to 911 calls reporting two people with injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated location.
According to law enforcement sources cited in the report, Carrasco had arrived at Ramirez’s apartment carrying flowers in an apparent attempt to reconcile with her. The encounter allegedly escalated into a violent confrontation after the reconciliation attempt failed.
Investigators reportedly found a discarded bouquet of flowers at the scene.
The case has also drawn attention to previous allegations of domestic violence involving the pair. Police records reportedly show that Carrasco was charged with third-degree assault on January 5 over an allegation that he slapped Ramirez.
Three days later, he was reportedly charged in connection with a break-in at her residence. Details of that case were later sealed, according to the account.
Investigators examined the 15th-floor balcony throughout Tuesday as authorities searched for Carrasco before his eventual arrest.
The fall left Ramirez dead and her infant daughter fighting for her life. Neighbors reportedly described a chaotic scene as emergency responders arrived at the building and attended to the victims.
A police spokesperson described the case as a devastating instance of alleged domestic violence, saying it had left a family shattered.
Carrasco remains in custody while awaiting further court proceedings on the felony charges. The allegations against him have not been established as proven facts in court.
The child’s condition remains a central concern as the investigation and legal proceedings continue.
