Paul McCartney Wraps Up ‘Got Back’ Tour in London With an Unforgettable Christmas Spectacle

Sir Paul McCartney concluded his monumental “Got Back” tour in his hometown of London, delivering a show that perfectly balanced nostalgia, festivity, and timeless rock ‘n’ roll magic. After 59 shows across the globe since April 2022, the legendary Beatle brought the curtain down at Christmas time, leaving fans with an unforgettable evening of music and memories.

A Holiday Homecoming

Although this was only McCartney’s fifth U.K. performance on the tour, the timing and atmosphere made it feel extra special. Playing to a multigenerational, festive crowd, McCartney took on the role of a jovial host, serving up a setlist that catered to all ages. From early Beatles classics to Wings hits and modern tracks, the night was a feast of musical brilliance.

The Beatles Legacy: A Feast for Fans

The show opened with a spirited “Can’t Buy Me Love” and featured plenty of Beatles classics, including “Got to Get You Into My Life”, “Getting Better”, and a poignant rendition of the newly released “Now and Then.”

Some standout moments included McCartney’s heartfelt tributes to his late bandmates, John Lennon and George Harrison. A stirring duet on “I’ve Got a Feeling”, with Lennon’s vocals projected on screen, left the audience awestruck, while an acoustic performance of “Something” began delicately on the ukulele before building into a grand rock anthem.

Other Beatles favorites, such as “Blackbird,” had McCartney reminiscing about the band’s stance against racial segregation, adding depth to the already emotional performance.

Wings and Christmas Cheer

McCartney also shone a spotlight on his Wings catalog, treating fans to thunderous renditions of “Band on the Run,” “Jet,” and “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five.”

In a nod to the holiday season, the crowd was delighted by a joyful performance of “Wonderful Christmastime,” complete with a brass section dressed as elves, snow machines, and a children’s choir. The festive ambiance made it clear that McCartney knows how to spread Christmas cheer through music.

Moments of Spontaneity and Humor

McCartney’s charm and spontaneity kept the night fresh. Whether he was joking about his minimal wardrobe change before “Let Me Roll It” or forgetting to play “My Valentine” and adding it back in later, he radiated an infectious energy.

A surprise brass section appearance in the crowd, reminiscent of “Love Actually,” added a fun and playful element to the evening.

A Finale to Remember

The night’s closing section was nothing short of spectacular. A raucous “Get Back” transitioned into the emotional highs of “Let It Be” and the explosive pyro-filled “Live and Let Die.” The iconic “Hey Jude” had the audience waving homemade signs and singing along in full Beatlemania spirit.

For the encore, McCartney waved a Union Jack, alongside Irish and rainbow flags, before launching into a fiery “Helter Skelter” and closing with the Abbey Road medley of “Golden Slumbers,” “Carry That Weight,” and “The End.”

McCartney’s Parting Words

As confetti rained down, McCartney kissed the camera and bid the audience farewell with a heartfelt promise:

“See you next time!”

At 81, McCartney continues to defy age with a sprightly presence and unwavering passion for live performance. This wasn’t framed as a farewell tour, but if it were, it would have been a send-off worthy of his unparalleled legacy.
